They plan to promote Nick to back up. I’d imagine after watching preseason, he will get a shot at some point

Starting? No. Backup? Yes.

Nick will probably be a career backup just like Austin Davis. No shame in getting paid six figures to play football.

Really, though, backup QB is a pretty great gig.

It is still impressive—basically saying you are one of the 64 best QBs alive.

You get paid a lot. You don’t take the beating.

You don’t deal with the media as much.

The appeal of being a starting QB is obvious. The perks of being a backup QB are different but pretty nice. Especially once guys hit a point at which they are comfortable with their role.
