RE: Wake Forest pre-game thread
Here are some stats on the Rushing Game:
Code:
Game      Attempts     Yards     Avg
Game1         50         310      6.2
Game2         43         147      3.4
Game3         39         147      3.8
Game4         29         137      4.7

The statistical outlier from the USM game is the number of first downs.
Code:
Game    First Downs Rushing   Passing   Penalty
Game1     22          16          4          2
Game2     22           5         14          3
Game3     21           8         11          2
Game4     12           5          7          0

Passing stats are a little more varied from game to game.

Code:
Game      Att-Comp-Int     Yards   Avg/Att   Avg/Comp
Game1     12-24-0            87      3.6       7.3
Game2     24-41-1           292      7.1      12.2
Game3     20-33-1           299      9.1      15.0
Game4     13-26-2           125      4.8       9.6

Spare the fake modesty... most of us know we're full of $@#! and mostly hope to learn more as folks point out the how and why...

RE: Wake Forest pre-game thread
Just watched the Coach Bloom video from earlier this week. Very refreshing to hear some plain talk about our deficiencies against USM and what was being planned to correct them... especially expanding competition for starting positions, and potentially getting new players on the field.
After SoMiss, I don't have any illusions that we will be Wake's equal in speed and athleticism. But Coach Bloom emphasized a plan of not only getting the players in position to make the play...but ACTUALLY making the play. Would love to see it. Especially on defense. Making a few tackles in space against USM would've made a huge difference.

No doubt the level of coaching the Owls are receiving this year is very high level. Hats off to Bloom and staff. Haven’t seen a DB make a play on a ball in a couple years and have seen plenty of it this year. Not quite making the plays but our guys are obviously being given the tools to be successful. In time we will be a very good football team.

If the offense works as designed, our QB should only be throwing the ball under favorable circumstances. Stank would thrive. He's being asked to things that don't fit his skills.

Apparently the O-line is also being asked to do things that don't fit their skills.

It's the old conundrum - fit the plays to the players or make the players keep trying the planned attack until they get it right. I kind of wish we were still running the triple option - Eskupa as the threat up up the middle, Austin Walter as the pitch man.

OL had one particular player that was not fast enough to cover and when he pulled it wasn't fast enough to complete his assignment and a couple of times interfered with #33...what can you do?? Also WR missed some simple but important block...just plainly got beat. Those are adjustments we can make. That should help the QB play, but that position needs to evolve...watch how the WF QB plays, he makes things happen.

I guess I don’t quite understand football. One lineman and a couple receiver blocks were the difference last week? My response was about momentum and how we could not get it going. Whatever you think it does start by blocking if you want the offense moving the ball. We don't have a deep threat passing game and USM exposed this by dropping the LBs back and taking away the short passing game. QB has had two good games UH & UH... but great ST, Defense, and running game made him look better...only had to manage. I don't know the quick fix but I don't think the backup will perform better, IMO. I'm sure #3 will have a shorter leash against WF then you will get your wish. Still would like to get know what would be different...based on stats I've seen

Like someone posted the other day and I hadn't thought about, the decision on starting QB may be in large part to understanding the scheme they are implementing. The starter's greatest skill set may not be throwing the ball, but reading the defense and making the correct audible at the line. If that is the case, then the system is probably maximized even though we are losing a bigger arm (although that is a QB criteria that I think is over-exaggerated as compared to accuracy and picking the right guy to throw it to).

I watch the quarterbacks closely. Standford used several quarterbacks last year. took a while to find the one.

We might be okay if we can get through this game without serious injury. We have four winnable home games. If we win them all, and steal a road victory, we're bowl-qualified.

9.9/10. I docked 0.1 because I assume UH is the basis for saying we have closer rivals ... but I'm gonna need the name of another "rival" in order to approve of the plural usage.

Then again, does Wake have *any* rivals? I mean, is there anyone who would claim Wake as *their* rival? UNC-Greensboro? (/snark)
