Old Dominion beat #13 Virginia Tech
Are they even FBS? When people why we have a frustrated fan base you don’t need to look any further than this example. We don’t beat any decent teams other than MAC teams. That’s not good. Our Coaches ;especially on offense and special teams) pee their pants against P5 programs while Old Dominion is making a name for themselves.....03-banghead

C-USA. Went into the game 0-3.
Back-up QB put up 500 yards passing, 28 points in the 4th quarter. Talk about creating a buzz for a program.

At least we're not VT fans today. They were ranked 17th going into the game. What a complete defensive breakdown.

Seeing a lot of teams pulling upsets or coming close just by pulling their QB and then the back up leads them to victory. Wonder if NIU had the balls to do that it might work....it works because the defense hasn’t game planned for that QB, especially if they are completely different styles of QB

Is this the same Old Dominion team that got thrashed by Liberty U in Liberty's first game as a FBS team 52-10? Somedays you've got it, some days you don't. I try to not get so frustrated when other non-P5 teams beat P5 teams. We've had our day, and our day will come again too.

RE: Old Dominion beat #13 Virginia Tech
I heard about the "foreshadowing" of the score vs. VTech when ODU renovated their stadium. Found the story:

https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...aunt-them/

Social media never forgets, and Virginia Tech found that out the hard way on Saturday. The No. 13 Hokies traveled to Norfolk, Virginia, to take on Old Dominion as massive favorites only to see the Monarchs pull off an improbable 49-35 upset -- the biggest upset in program history.

Guess what? They even predicted it. The school unveiled plans for a renovated stadium in 2016, and the scoreboard in the renderings had Old Dominion beating Virginia Tech 35-24. The Hokies attempted to poke fun at this, which was certainly good natured a couple of years ago. Now? Well ...

ODU unveiled cool stadium plans today.

Only problem?

Scoreboard has a case of wishful thinking! ? #Hokies pic.twitter.com/dQTv3fsgPf

The first lesson here is the age-old Twitter saying "#NeverTweet." Except, for our sake, tweets like this are gold. Social media is all about engagement, and college programs, pro teams and businesses using the medium to have a new and interesting voice is a great way to market. Virginia Tech's Twitter account is one of the most active and interesting in the college football world.

Sometimes your great tweets come back to bite you, and Virginia Tech's trolling of Old Dominion in June 2016 did just that on Sept. 22, 2018.

I'm not ready to put a one-game ODU on the same plane as NIU's last decade of football success.

Agreed.

We're not in prime shape right now, and still managed to embarrass Nebraska just last season in front of a sold out stadium. Our G5 glass is still half full.

Usually I’m the optimist in the group trying to talk fans off the ledge, but you guys are talking about last year because honestly we suck right now. If we lose to Eastern Michigan this Saturday.......I don’t see things getting better. The way this team is trending you guys are way more positive than me. If we played Old Dominion, they would kick our tails all over the field . There’s not a game left on the schedule that I feel we will for sure win. If you have a different opinion... do tell .

OD lost their first three games, including 52 to 10 to Liberty. They caught lightening in a bottle versus VT, who totally collapsed in the 4th quarter.

Not saying OD doesn't have a good team, but we'll see what happens.

I remember when then FCS Appalachian State beat Michigan, then lost to Wofford the next week.

OD is currently just a flash in the pan, until they prove otherwise over several seasons, whereas NIU has some established history as a top tier G5. Even if we have a few really bad seasons (hope we don't), you can't take that foundation away, and we can always improve again and pick up where we left off. OD has a great campfire story, but is a ways off from having any established reputation of prominence.

NIU will be fine, the cream always rises to the top. Attend some games, wear your cardinal and black, and don't give up alcohol until we have a B12 or ACC invite firmly in hand.

I am torn on that. Never ever want to discount winning in a P5 stadium, but if we are honest with each other, that was a bad Nebraska team.

I think you are probably right that it would not mean things are better in long run if NIU beats EMU, but that would be a little bit of a shocker to me at this point if NIU pulled an upset.

We're only 3-point dogs, and I wouldn't exactly be shocked if we won. The defense should keep us in the game so we have a chance to win in the 4th quarter - as long as we're able to get pressure on the QB and not snap the ball over the holder's head.

We were the straw (stalk?) that broke the camels back. Since we beat Nebraska they've only topped Rutgers, Purdue, and Lovie's Illinois. Including an 0-3 start to this season with a loss to Troy.

5-17 last 22 games. Have given up 54 or more points in 4 of last 9 games. 04-jawdrop

Old Dominion got a big break when Va Tech starting QB Josh Jackson broke his fibula on the first play of a drive after a Monarch score. OD was up 35-28 and 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter.
