RE: 9/22 other games
In more CUSA news, FIU kept it relatively close to a currently-top-25 Miami team, losing only by 14 (31-17). (I have my doubts about Miami remaining top 25 by the end of the season.)

In a thriller in Eugene, Stanford overcomes a 17 point halftime deficit to tie the game at the last second, and then defeats Oregon in OT.

Oregon was running out the clock. Led 31 - 28 with under a minute left, and the ball around midfield. They fumbled on a running play. Stanford completed two passes and kicked the game-tying field goal before time expired.
The Oregon QB was 25 - 27 during regulation time, but only 1-6 in OT.

I noticed that UCF placed FAU's band in the top few rows of the upper deck for their game Friday night:
https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.p...7683955%2F
(And how about the size of UCF's "Band Practice Facility" - https://www.facebook.com/FAUMarchingOwls...062397509/ !!)
I guess that is the way “big time” programs act.
Watching on TV, it appeared that Texas U did the same thing to the TCU band. There was clearly a block in what appeared to be purple and white uniforms in the end zone upper deck, and that section was clearly vacated just before the half. Was anyone there to confirm or deny?

What's the big deal here. If I recall correctly, back in the day (prior to the mid-to-late'80s), when we'd still draw 45,000+ in attendance for games against UT, A&M and LSU, we'd always have their big bands in the upper deck at HRS, above the student section. No?

Did you follow Optimistic Owl's link - it clearly shows where the TCU band was seated (in the nosebleed country). I'll assume TCU didn't play at half - no way could they get down to the field from those seats unless they basically left after kickoff.
Speaking of the UT crowd, I watched some of that game on TV and while it was a massive crowd, I did notice some sections of the stadium that were empty. I don't know what their capacity is these days (is it 100K?) but it absolutely wasn't a sellout. We'd still kill for that type of crowd (percentage wise) but still I was surprised that a strong opponent didn't sell out the stadium.

All Oregon had to do was take a couple knees - clock was at :50, it was 2nd down, and Stanford had 1 TO. Running a play was idiotic and frankly should be a fireable offense. It is the coaching equivalent of players dropping the ball too soon as they cross the goal line in an attempt to look cool.

No, I didn’t. I was on my iPhone and it was taking forever for the link to load. Checking it now, that looks exactly like what I saw on the telecast. I am interested in knowing if they performed at the half. The section was clearly vacated with about 5 minutes left in the half. I don’t see how they could have gotten down and back unless DKR Memorial has vastly upgraded their infrastructure or Elon Musk intervened. Maybe they were just taking a break.

During my time in the Rice Band (1966-72ish), when UT/A&M and LSU would draw near sellouts, both we (Rice Band) and the visiting band would always occupy roughly equivalent sections on the east-side lower bowl ... approximately between the 20-30 yard lines (IIRC, or perhaps the 10 & 20) on opposite sides of the 50. I'd never seen a visiting band sequestered in an upper deck until I saw the video & photos of this past weekend's FAU and TCU bands. It seems to be extremely inhospitable ... but that seems to be where our society is heading when dealing for fans of "opposing" teams or ideas.

Mike, the UT band was definitely sequestered to the upper deck while I was on campus (1974 - '78), almost immediately after you. They were right above the Rice student section.

Mike and I were in the MOB at the same time and my memory was the same as his - I never saw a visiting band in the upper deck. However, I do believe that when there were the 65-70,000 crowds the Rice band was down close to the goal line rather than up by the 20.

Now for most P5s, they put the visiting bands and the rest of the visitors in the end zone.
