I agree. OU has a good offense and if they get extra yards and plays from the refs they are going to score. We got a tough whistle in that first half, but hell of a response from the entire team.

I'm not 100% sure I follow what you are saying, but it sounds like you are assuming we wouldn't convert so it would be 34-30. If OU gets a TD, why in the world would they go for 2 and risk not getting it? No, they'd go for 1 to make it 37-34. If we'd have made the 2 point, they'd still go for 1 to make it 37-36. Either way we're behind and need a FG to win or tie (and conventional wisdom is to play for OT at home with its advantages rather than take big risks to win in regulation in my experience.)

Now if we kick xp and OU gets a TD, then I think they go for 2 putting them up either 38-35 or 36-35. Anyway you slice all those scenarios we need at least a FG to win or get OT at home minimum.

Big advantages to going for 2 are that it forces them to make an xp to win if they get a td and it keeps us tied rather than losing if they get 2 FGs (and their kicker was looking like aces Sat. iirc)

Sure there are a million scenarios that can occur from quick scores to quick turnovers to onside kicks to freak safeties that could make you regret the decision, but the most logical and reasonable call was to go for 2. I'm sure there are simulations out there (that go beyond a simple chart to take time left in the game, etc. into account) that would very likely reinforce that point even if it was by a fairly narrow margin. Hard to say whether UC actually runs quick simulation programs late in the game in the coaches box, but if they don't, they probably should.

And on a side note - more accuracy issues for ESPN. If it isn't "P5", they don't seem to put a whole lot into it

UMass has suspended football coach Mark Whipple one week without pay and ordered him to undergo sensitivity training after using the word "rape" in describing a non-penalty call during Saturday's 58-42 loss to Miami of Ohio.
Whipple, in complaining about what he said he thought was home-friendly officiating for Miami (Ohio)
