Yep, every time one of our so called g5 schools outplays or out smarts a so called P5’s, the NCAA has to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Great play North Texas...

I feel bad for the next north Texas punt returner. If it was my team I’d blast him cause no way you get ejected after that trick play. You could just say you didn’t see it.

In this instance, I do agree with the rule change. NT did a fake play to gain advantage of a rule intended to promote safety. Misdirections, laterals, etc. don’t take advantage of rules or situations intended to promote safety. This clearly was.

Actually, it just took advantage of Arkansas’s stupidity...but whatever floats your boat I guess. Good play North Texas.

I call BS. All they had to do was lay a finger on the UNT kid and the score as well as this BS rule wouldn't be needed. Its their responsibility to make sure the kid signals a FC and if he didn't lay wood on him which they failed and now this BS rule is out because SEC has a stranglehold on the NCAA.

Absolutely agree, 12Monarch...It is not like this will happen every punt, just every blue moon like what happened. Arkansas, which gets every advantage in the world already, because of their whining now gets one more. Absolutely pitiful.

I hope they do change the rule. Then UNT can go in the record books as the last team to pull it off.
Also, you should start threads about North Texas. You might trigger someone.

This is a needed rule. NT isn't the first team to do this, just the first one lately. Some receiver/returner is going to get killed because a player wont see the actual fair catch move, and will nail the guy. That being said it was a genius call for NT.

Reading the Hogs fan forum I saw some of them whining about the play. Thought it was unfair. What's unfair is getting paid all the money they do for fielding such a piece of crap football team.
What's the rule now? Hit the guy after he's called a fair catch and you get a penalty? I'm fine with that penalty. If the defender is unsure if a fair catch was called or not, just reach out and grab his jersey and hold him till the whistle blows. If he tries to break away, and there's not been a whistle, toss him to the turf. I can't see a penalty for that.

Yeah UNT didn't do anything wrong under the current rules, but exploiting a safety rule is going to lead to someone getting hurt. I think if the player doesn't make a football move after the catch with no fair catch signal, the ball is downed there at the spot of the catch. The time for a football move will be at the ref's discretion, but a second or two is all it takes.

Ridiculous.
Next to be banned by the NCAA - according to sources - are play action passes, reverses, fake punts, and the triple option.
