RE: 2022 MBB Recruiting
Coach Bollinger has started following 6’4 Brett Rumpel of Binghamton, NY (Spire Institute, City Rocks EYBL). Rumpel holds offers from Monmouth, Fordham, Binghamton, and Indiana St.

Endless Motor writes on 5/5:

“ Speed is the name of the game for Rumpel. He possesses good straight line speed in the open court and nice first-step acceleration against a half-court defense. Brett was able to consistently get a step on his defender because of it and that allowed his vision to be on full display. The 6’4 lead guard picked apart the defense with hit-aheads in transition and dumpoffs in the half-court once the opposition brought help defense to cut off his driving lane. Rumpel also did well for himself as a finisher, finishing through contact on multiple occasions and using his size to bully his way to the rim. While he plays at a frantic pace, he was never out of control and rarely turned the ball over. D1s that prefer a bigger lead-guard with good playmaking ability will want to have him on their radar.”

Bollinger also followed Spire’s post grad HC.

Northview Basketball, Kyler Vanderjagt’s HS, has started following Coach Boatner.

The D Zone considers Vanderjagt and Jack Karasinski the top two ‘22 prospects in Western Michigan. They had this to say about Vanderjagt on 5/5:

“ Kyler started to gain national attention on the recruiting scene last season, and I believe he will continue to earn scholarship offers from big-time programs across the country in the ensuing months. As a junior, Kyler averaged 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. Kyler has the physical tools, athleticism, and in-game IQ that makes him West Michigan’s most sought-after recruit. He has the shotmaking skills to fill it up from any spot on the court, and the awareness to pick his spots to either hunt shots or find his teammates for open looks. One quality about Kyler’s game that stands out above others is his in-game demeanor. He’s an even-keeled playmaker who plays an efficient style of basketball without letting in-game emotions dictate his performance.”

Trent Markwith saw Karasinski play last week at the Bill Hensley Run ‘n Slam and had this to say.

“ Karasinski was probably my favorite player to watch in the event. He started off with a 27-point game against EG10 on Friday night and also went for 25 in a matchup with Mac Irvin Fire. A versatile, energetic 6’6” wing, Karasinski keeps defenses guessing and leaves with an empty tank every game. On Friday, he quickly hit 3 3’s to start the game, before showing off his athleticism for the entirety of the 2nd half. Karasinskis is a powerful leaper off of 2 feet, which he uses to fly through the air & swat shots or get up easily for dunks. He’s fearless and physical as a finisher, sacrifices his body with charges, and has a consistent shot that he connects on in a variety of ways. What I love most about him is the competitive edge he plays with; Karasinski wants to take it to anyone he faces and constantly makes plays that give his team a boost. There was just nonstop aggression and production from him during the weekend. ”

I think he's more athletic as a high school athlete, but his game reminds me of fellow cager from the mitten state Quinn Blair. Both share a physical aspect to their game with the ability to power to the hoop and the ability to hit the kick out 3. Not that Quinn isn't a willing defender, I think Jack could be a better defender. Would be fitting that as Quinn graduates, we bring in Quinn version 2.0.

RE: 2022 MBB Recruiting
City of Basketball Love, which has a Philly angle, wrote the following about Dom Campbell. Here’s a snippet:

‘Just as the world is opening back up from COVID, Campbell’s going to have a busy summer: his new list of suitors includes schools both near (UMass and Albany) and far (William & Mary, Wofford), plus the likes of Lehigh, Brown, Holy Cross, Siena, and more.

Another one of the schools that offered Campbell during his recent spate was Penn, which isn’t surprising given Campbell’s travel program. The Magic have produced a number of Quaker players in recent memory, most notably all-Ivy forward A.J. Brodeur, who scored 1,832 points and grabbed 928 rebounds during a standout Quakers career (2016-20).

“They’re a really good program, I like them a lot,” Campbell said. “I haven’t been to the Palestra yet but I’m looking forward to going there, so that should be really cool.”

Of course, he’s still going to have to take plenty of visits; so far he’s only been on the campuses of Brown and Holy Cross, but only just to walk around, as coaches haven’t been able to host recruits on campus since pre-COVID. Campbell said he expects a decision by his senior year.

“I kinda want to go to a place where it’s near the city but not directly in the city, per se, so I want to actually have a campus,” he said.”And then I want to be around good people, also.”‘
