Very nice, excited to see the plans for the area along Stadium where they tore down the old apartments.

If you click on the South Neighborhood Housing link it shows that the Elmwood Apt site will be used for student housing. A couple pictures but not a lot of information yet. I drove through the area that used to be Elmwood Apts and even if they do nothing more to the site it is a vast improvement. the phrase "addition by subtraction" comes to mind.

Spot on! I honestly remember thinking how crappy looking those apartments were when I first visited WMU before starting school in 1983. And every time I have gone by them since I thought, "why the he11 haven't they torn down that eyesore"?

Ill tell you what though, WMU will be pretty sharp looking campus in a few years; not that it isn't already. But cleaning up the buildings that needed cleaning up will make a big difference.

My daughter and I went to the Syracuse game, and went to the bookstore. She attends Oakland, but my kids have been to Western and our student center probably 5-6 times every year of their lives, so they are very familiar with the campus. She commented though that WMU's student center is very dated, and not nearly as nice or functional as most other colleges. Oakland has a very nice student center. Bernard served it purpose for years, but the new facility is past due.

RE: Campus construction project
Bernard is probably my least favorite building on campus. Old, stuffy, small.......needed a new student union a long time ago, so I'm excited we're finally getting a new one!

The area where Elmwood Apartments were is actually pretty nice, gives our campus more greenery. Too much space to not build on it, but whatever it is, I hope it doesn't take too much room.

Also, McCracken should've been decimated ages ago. Large abandoned building on the center of campus was awful.

I think in a couple years we'll really have the campus that I wanted when I was a student!

Every one of these photos is dated in the album.
