I had read some of the disdain for the statue on this board in the past but I never really got an up close look at the statue until recently.

That has to be the ugliest looking pack of Huskies imaginable. You could have bronzed RC’s face and put it on one of the dogs and it wouldn’t have looked as heinous. Honest to God, who signed off on this eyesore? Who designed it…Helen Keller Jr.? What was NIU thinking commissioning this project? To see people taking pictures next to thing like it’s the Santo statue at Wrigley is an embarrassment.

Thank goodness for the beautiful Diesel statue on the West side…that was nicely done and a fitting tribute to a great mascot. PigDog needs to go!

When we were working on getting the Diesel Memorial approved, I found out that a family of high $$$$$$ donors commissioned the PigDog & it was completed BEFORE NIU even saw it - so NIU didn't exactly approve it. NIU knows it's a monster but now they are stuck with it. That's why we had to submit a smaller "working model" of how the Diesel Memorial would look before we got approval. Since Renee Bemis was the artist for Diesel they pretty much knew Diesel would actually look like Diesel.
They learned the hard way lol. I suspect it'll be a long time before it goes away.

Wow. Probably a relative of the donor. Maybe it was the only way to get him/her work. We now need a donor with bigger bucks to buy out and replace the PigDog. NIU really got the shaft with that one.

Aw, c'mon. The half pig, half dog animal that is flipping everyone off is starting to grow on me.

I sit on the other 25-yard-line and can barely see the thing. Not that I mind.

Yea I'm on the west side in section B so I can barely see it. The only time I have to look at it is when someone posts the picture on here. 03-hissyfit
