This was posted on the Memphis board, but I thought it was too good to not share here. For a little background (and somebody more informed, please add to my description), The Commercial Appeal has been bought out by some regional or national owner, and what was already pretty bad has gone to worse. But a new paper has or is being launched called The Daily Memphian, and if this is any indication of what they are all about, I will be subscribing to a paper for the first time in over 20 years. Geoff Calkins used to write for the Commercial Appeal. He now writes for The Daily Memphian. Read this guy. He is one of the most talented weavers of word and image I have read. I litterally HATE this guy for his politics, but I think he is so good, I'm here telling you to read this article, if that tells you anything.

Being a part of startup paper has gotten his mind right. I wonder how long he can resist the temptation to write one of his snarky, condescending (albeit well written) hit jobs.
