FSU O-Line is struggling
I don’t know what’s worst....... Having bad QB play or having an O-Line that can’t block? FSU is one mid major loss away from a dumpster fire. Did not forsee us having a chance against them this year, but if we can score we may get this boneyard victory in Tallahassee FL. Their fanbase is as frustrated as ours but we’re coming off a victory.

RE: FSU O-Line is struggling
Syracuse allowed WMU to put up 42.
And Wagner to put up 10.

Florida State needed mopup time to put up 7.

And we needed mop up time to put up 7 against Iowa. This could be the pillowfight of the century.

I don't see this being a fun game, but rather the bloodbath we predicted before the season started. The only thing pretty will be the check NIU gets, and that's the purpose of this game anyway.

FSU's O-line may be struggling, but I'm concerned that ours might be a little overrated. Steckler going down doesn't help.

Should be an interesting game...

RE: FSU O-Line is struggling
I listened to the game at tailgate. The color man (William Floyd I think) was drilling the line the entire game. He could not believe how bad they were along witht he penalties. They were 1/14 on 3rd down, did not convert until the 4th I don't think.

I think he felt to bad after a while of being so critical that the excuse became they didn't prepare for the Fr. qb who came in. Maybe we can do the same with Hall. Oh wait, he isn' a QB this yr, correct?

I don’t think needing mop up to score on Iowa is necessarily as bad as it seemed. They are 3-0 and held Iowa State to 3 points last week.

If this wasn't a carey team I'd feel good but we'll get destroyed next week. Its CMU so dont think childers is good all the sudden.

The team that scores of turnovers will win. Neither offense looks good. If we turnover the ball it will be over quickly for us. FSU will take advantage of all offensive or special teams miscues that we have.

I don't care about their OL. I look at our offense against their D and it ain't gonna be pretty.

RE: FSU O-Line is struggling
Right now we're 11 point dogs to FSU. I find that amazing. I figured at least 14.

Let's hope that the Childers we saw later in theCMU game shows up, or even improves. If we can put a couple of TD's on the board we have a chance.
Without a doubt, our D will determine the outcome.

I just hope that if the Huskies win the reaction isn't "we won because FSU sucks." But I can hear that chorus already...

RE: FSU O-Line is struggling
There are a lot of reads on this topic on the net.

While Francois hasn't been great statistically, he hasn't been horrible at all times. He seems to be inaccurate on anthing beyond a short pass. Since they aren't getting the big plays, aren't establing the run on early downs they aren't moving the chains. That compoounds the line issues when they get down. Basically the same issues NIU has had for 2 1/2 games.

It will be interesting to see FSUs plan of attack. With they try to establish run? Pass short early and often in trying to use their athletes? If NIU can somehow get the lead it could be interesting. While they threw for 300 vs. Samford it took them 46 attempts. NIU will get to the QB.

NIU will have to establish something in the passing game as Samford did when they went for almost 500 on 60 attempts. Easier said than done I guess.

Childers hasn't gotten anywhere near 200 in a game; 500 is impossible...

RE: FSU O-Line is struggling
I pretty much watch all FSU games as my Daughter went there. Yes their Oline is not up to past standards but the big FSU problem is penalties that stop drives and extend opponents drives. I hoped Taggart would address and solve this but they continue to shoot themselves in the foot. They love the personal fouls with late hits and piling on.

On defense NIU will have to watch #99 Burns as he will be getting up close and personal to Childers.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: FSU O-Line is struggling
I don't even know where to start... except I am glad for NFL football on Sundays. Francois is actually accurate in deep throws and most intermediate throws. His accuracy is not the problem. He has had ZERO time to throw the ball. We have 4 or 5 star athletes at every skill position on the field on offense. However, we are running 2 and 3 star O lineman out there. We have had 4 quit or transfer this year. We have 2 that are missing for injuries. One that is now a converted D lineman trying to learn. Recruiting that position has sucked for years now and we are seeing what happens when you don't focus on that group.

FSU should win by 3 touchdowns on Saturday. However, when you are 130 out of 130 teams in scoring offense, we could lose by 2 touchdowns because our defense is out there 40 of the 60 minutes. Key to NIU is to keep the ball as long as possible. I would hand it off every chance I can. I expect it to be a real low scoring affair going into halftime. At that point, whoever has TOP advantage at the end of the game will probably win.

With all of FSU's dysfunction, I don't see this being inside a 2 score game. FSU is just way too fast for NIU's offense to be a scoring threat

"Key to NIU is to keep the ball as long as possible." Do we have to get 1st down to do that? Is that still the rule? Because that could be an issue.

What could have been an exciting rematch of the OB, now looks like a trash game, to which I expect NIU to maybe score 3 points.

ESPN has your scoring offense ranked 123rd with 15.3ppg. NIU scoring offense is ranked 128th with 13.3 ppg. This will be one boring game. Even if both offenses are dreadful I expect FSU to win since their offensive skill players are probably far more talented than our's and I highly doubt there are many starting QBs in 1-A worse than Childers.
