Jawuan Johnson...
Would loved to see our defense with him still on it this year. Especially since he doesn't seem to be playing much at all at TCU. Still a head scratcher of a decision to transfer after such a great season here.

100% agree. Can't be seen if you are not on the field.

Idiotic move. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

He appeared on the participation list, but, I never saw him on the field.

Gary Patterson should probably just wade in a mini swimming pool during games. He kept doing these full body towel wipe downs on the sidelines and then tossing the soaked towel to a female assistant. It was not a very attractive sight

With all the coverage and scouting Sutton is getting, he would for sure turn heads with his play. I’m still perplexed by that move.....

It made no sense. Somebody gave him some terrible advice. Went from one of the nations top returning linebackers to an unknown in a system that won’t show his strengths. TCU is a great program but there’s a reason why 3-4 star players are choosing midmajor programs to get exposure. Now he has to wait till his pro-day to prove his worth again. Who knows..... Had he stayed at NIU and had another big year the NFL combines could be an option.

The defense is doing fine. Probably can't afford many injuries but they're playing wonderfully. I don't miss him at all.

Parents and/or advisors being completely delusional is often the culprit.

Yep, great lesson for others looking to transfer. JJ is now a little fish in a big pond when he could've stayed and been a big fish.

I'm with Badmoon. Why are we still talking about Jawuan Johnson? He's no longer a Huskie. Let it go and enjoy the outstanding D we have. The LB's have really stepped up.

Im sure he is regretting his decision though. I hope he was given a shot to win the job, seems kind of odd to me, to snatch a bigger name transfer up like that and have him sit. Or at the very least, I hope it was explained to him how competitive it would be at that position and there would be a chance he would not play.

Our linebackers have been great this year. Better than I expected to be honest. Awesome job by that unit.

RE: Jawuan Johnson...
I wish him the best and hopefully he finds a way in. With so many more of these final year transfers happening, hopefully there will start to be more historical trends for players to make better decisions. Yes, a bigger program/better facilities/coaching potentially, can be a big win for your future pro prospects. However, there's also a lot to be said about how good you look on video in a system you've known for 4-5 years. There's not always a clear answer. And maybe 'pro prospects' aren't the biggest driver.

In one of his social media post he mentioned chasing rounds as part of his decision. You can’t go in the first round if everyone forgets who you are.

I understand his decision but was also surprised. I disagree that we shouldn’t even talk about him anymore because if he did go pro, we should be proud that he came from here. I believe he would have represented us over tcu. One of the main reasons he left was because he wanted to be close to family. Can’t blame him for that. He did believe he would be a starter. Obviously underestimated his competition that came up through the tcu. Maybe would have been better off at SMU. He probably had a maturity issue but would have been a great for our D.

I think what he discounted is there's a learning curve in any new system. No doubt JJ was talented but you have to know the team's system in order to showcase your talent. As far as discussing the topic, I enjoy it because it's a nice distraction from every thread turning into how terrible NIU football is and fire Carey.

Both of your points are very true. I mentioned SMU because Kane is there and JJ would have probably been more comfortable in the scheme. I don’t know why he was beat out at TCU but I think your comment about discounting the learning curve is probably accurate. Goes toward my maturity statement too. Sad thing is that he was a projected draft pick here.

He was guaranteed playing time on a top defensive team. What more do you need?
