For a MWC team to get the slot, all other G5 champs need losses.

The MAC undefeated teams Buffalo and Akron, and C-USA's UNT, LA Tech, and Marshall are going to need to run the table and see all the AAC teams falter.

I can't help but wonder if Houston could be dinged at all with Hawaii defeating both of their mutual opponents (Rice, Navy) regardless of how the Bows do.

Notsure why that matters at all. Houston beat Rice worse than Hawaii did. If Houston beats Navy, the common opponent issue is irrelevant. To make the access bowl you have to be conference champ. That means Hsouson will eventually probably end up beating a couple of ranked teams if they win the AAC. That would mean more than any common opponent factor.

The real outside factor that could effect Houston is Texas Tech. If Tech becomes a top ten team—or even a B12 champ—-Houston’s one loss doesn’t look bad at all since they were very competitive and simply lost with a heck of a Tech offense. Houston already proved to be more competitive against Texh than a ranked Oklahoma S (who, by the way, blew out Boise).

Lots of football stil to play and lots of data points still to come. With a loss, Houston has a tough road—-but they are not completely out of it yet. It’s going to come down to the 5 conference winners. Take care of business and win your conference—-and you still have a shot.
