Welcome to LaLa Land
The one and only bright spot of the game. How good did true freshman LaLa Davis look?!?! I think we have a future star on our hands there. For a minute it was like Ray was back. Play him in three more games, but I sure wouldn't burn his redshirt on this crappy year. He's the kind of guy you may be able to build an offense with.

Agreed but I’m worried he could transfer.

Really liked what I saw from Davis. Confirmed what I believe happened in the first 2 games. Our OL is opening up holes (not the best at withstanding blocks) and we need quicker backs in the hole. Davis doesn't always choose the correct gap (missed at least twice yesterday), but it's better to be decisive in the wrong gap than hesitate and hit the right gap too late.
Very impressive performance from him. He could be our next star.

At this point i guess the question is do you play him more than the 4 games that would allow him to keep his red shirt status. I personally would hate to burn a year of eligibility in a lost year. Although it would be difficult to watch the running game continue to struggle knowing you had a better option on the sideline not wearing pads.

I'd say play him the next two games. If it looks like things are going to devolve further, redshirt him and save his eligibility (keeping one game in the back pocket in case circumstances require his presence). If they do what nobody here's expecting and turn things around dramatically and he's a big reason why (as in he rushes for 350 yards and five TDs in wins over VT and ECU), then ride him as long as you can.
It's tempting just to throw in the towel but there's still nine games left. You shouldn't EXPECT a 9-3 season but even after all of this, it's still too early to simply play out the string. At least let the damned leaves start turning.

RE: Welcome to LaLa Land
We have another freshman running back in reserve as well. Why not let them both play 4 games each, just not at the same time. That way you get 8 games with a potential game changer and don't lose any eligibility. I'd do the same thing with Fitzgerald a little later in the season. Let's find out what we've got going forward, with or without Wilder.
SW's accuracy has not improved one bit since last year and that should be a point of major concern.

I'd probably keep him out against VT, because as a true freshman he may get hurt more easily. I'd definitely play him against ECU, WKU and then see how it plays out. Maybe somehow, some way we can see a miracle happen in Greenville. Even a miracle won't help us on Saturday.

I don't disagree, though it'd also be nice to see how he handles better competition. But it's not like this will be his only opportunity to see a P5 opponent.
In that vein, if you're going to experiment with Drayton Arnold, the ECU game is the one to do it in. By that point the Monarchs will almost certainly be 0-4 and whatever hopes they have at success will fall on the CUSA schedule, so ECU almost becomes a de facto exhibition of sorts. Plus the Pirates are still beatable — ask North Carolina A&T.

RE: Welcome to LaLa Land
Did La La lose his redshirt against WKU?
Update: According to espn he has had rushing stats in 3 games but I think he played on some special teams plays so im not sure if he is over 4 games yet. Would be stupid to blow his redshirt.

ESPN stats are off. They had Steven Williams down for a catch vs. WKU yesterday. Davis and Knight should still have one game left to play this year.
Davis plays vs. UNCC, VT and WKU
We have two players that wear number 25 on the team.

RE: Welcome to LaLa Land
I really thought Davis played vs. another game, but doesn't have any stats on there.
Im not as concerned with the redshirt, but if it were me:
If Cox is healthy, he's primary backup to Strong and no reason to play either Davis or Knight
If Cox is not healthy, I would play one of the 2 vs. Middle and sit the other.
If we win vs. Middle, I have no issue if we need to burn the redshirts due to injuries.
If we lose vs. Middle, I would just shut both down unless we have an influx of injuries and need someone to suit up at RB.

I don't remember Davis playing in but three games, and I think he went out after the fumble, not to return
Hehe I remember when we had two number 10s

I thought Knight was 25 and Davis was 12. Do I have it backwards?

Knight is 25
Davis is 12
Both 12 and 25 are numbers that are double wore. When you see someone that wears 25 or 12 on special teams it may not be Davis or Knight out there. I should have stated that in the post earlier.
