I believe Rick Pitino would be a distraction to the team and local media. Our media would most likely keep interviewing Rick especially if UC lost a game or two. Best to let Rick eventually find a team to coach and Mick continue with UC. Martin/Van Exel would be ok for me. I actually prefer listening to Terry Nelson on the radio or doing some tv games. His niche in life is broadcasting and entertainment. He'd be a good coach though if he truly wanted to be one. Terry has a great basketball mind.

RE: LD replacement
watch the video i posted earlier. Mick is looking for someone for this year. He said he was looking at some semi-retired coaches to fill in for the season. Also said if he talk him out of Florida. He also has young guys on the staff and has to do what is best for the team. Watch the youtube video on the previous page.

Lol I thought the same thing. I love terry so much as a personality on TV/Radio, I would almost rather him stay in that position over coaching us. Not really but still.

Where did you get the video?
Did not know Dermarr is a student coach.
- I assume that’s Dermarr Johnson. Nice to have a former NBA player on the bench.

How about Steve Alford to take LD's spot.. semi-local guy, and can teach shooting, offwnse, etc. And has never had any issues recruiting.

He would be a great choice, I think he takes the rest of the season off from coaching and is hire in the B-10, probably similar to Tubby or Larry Brown. I am glad he started at my undergrad Alma mater...took Manchester College(now University) to the DIII finals.02-13-banana

Steve's got quite a bit of coin so to speak. I would not expect him to be in an asst. role for quite some time. He'll end up a head coach in due time at what will likely be a midwestern school.

He is also revered in IN. Mr. BB, NCAA Champ, Olympic Gold Medal. So if a D1 school in IN needs a coach in the near future expect him near the top of the list.
IUPUI, Butler, Evansville?

They might have an opening at the end of the year. Jason Gardner is in year 5, and he has never won more than 14 games. If he doesn't make a run this year I think he might get the boot.

Butler has been doing just fine with their "promote from within" strategy. I doubt they'll change that next time around.

He's referring to Greg Youncofski. Greg was a student-manager at KU several year back. He has been with us for a few years as a video coordinator and team ops guy. After LD was let go he has moved up. I've heard several people say he has a great basketball mind and will be a head coach in CBB someday soon.

Sounds like people's impression of Mick in the '90s

Funny you say that because Mick made the same comment to a group of us a while back.
