An apology to rath
Even though I did not always agree with your posts, i.e. mainly when you got preachy, this board was a better place with you participating.

Maybe, someday soon, you will return someday ala John Wick. Until then, keep enjoying your sabbatical.

Chanting "Beetlejuice" three times may do the trick.

He did offer a lot of great input and was one of the best writer on this board...but, man, was he bipolar.

After months of telling us to be cheerier about the basketball team, he bolts immediately after the Nevada debacle. so hot and cold...

We lost a number of "regulars" after that collapse.

And, yeah...I miss Rath being around too.

This thread is what they've all been waiting for. Everybody on here begging them to come back.

Just like the little kid with the nap sack on a stick hiding out in his garage trying to convince his parents that he's ran away for good this time.

Uh, yeah. I'm sure that Rath has been refreshing his browser on an hourly basis since March.

Poor guy. The collapse sucked the life right out of him. I don't have the capacity to get upset enough to quit following the team because I'm so used to getting kicked in the nuts as a Cincinnati sports fan.

As far as I can tell, rath v2.0 and Kenyon#4 are the only posters from that thread on January 20 that quit all the way. All the others either still lurk or post occasionally. I can't blame anyone who overreacted in the moment. That's one we will never forget as a fan base.

He’s being fed his meds through pudding in Northern Michigan. He watches the Cats, but doesn’t live and breathe them anymore. At his age I’m surprised he’s still breathing. He says he’ll be down for the OU game.

I liked Rath. He had that whole Sunshine schtick going which kind of backfired on him when he melted down and bolted out of town (literally). The Nevada loss has made a lot of us re-examine priorities I think.

That ship sailed 03-lmfao from this thread 8 years ago was when it all boiled over...

"so before your tea kettle starts to steam, bring it out.
i want to stop the blood loss here.
and happy Thanksgiving to one and all." - g

We've come a long ways 04-cheers

Reading that whole thread is Dark Ages, but few samples for how far we have come...post #319 mlb was the last in the thread...what does winning cure again?

What my statement and my leaving is really about is this select few on here that have developed this elitist attitude that only they of the Salem Garden Crew, can determine what a true UC fan is and only their opinions matter on any subject in regards to UC BB or FB. When you've got a mod like EJ spouting some ridiculous, ignorant statement like "show up or shut the f@ck up" it just hammers the truth home. Instead of letting this board be a place where UC fans can express their opinions and discuss the positives and negatives around UC sports now it's "well you weren't there" or you should listen to so-and-so because "he was actually-at-the-game" as if somebody watching the game on TV cant come to form an opinion without sitting in the sweatervest section with the mutual admiration society that has decided they're the only voice of reason around here. We get it, you all feel like you need to talk down to anyone who is soured on the current direction of UC BB because you feel the need to protect your so-called "buddy" but believe me, the pessimism isn't from people that aren't over Huggins, its from people that want UC basketball on top. Hell anymore I think you elitist would be just as happy with it being mediocre just so you can tell your coworkers at the water cooler and your buddies at the little league games stories about how you hung out with the HC and drank beers like old friends.

I guess those of don't attend this game or that game, or tailgate with this person, or hang out at this bar should just sit back and let you all glad-hand each other all day and let you dictate what a true UC fan is because according to the way you all reply to people around here we're all a bunch of uneducated no-nothings who's opinions don't matter because we don't sit together during BB games or sit in the same section during FB games.

When some of you get over your over-inflated ego and sense of yourself this board will be a better place, but as it stands now you've managed to run into the ground.

"show up or shut the f@ck up"? how about just "shut the f@ck up and let somebody else have an opinion for once"

I'm out. G or B_R delete my account.

I have nothing against Mick Cronin...but this constant crying about what he started with and dealt with...guys just DON'T PLAY HARD for him on a consistent basis...don't know why, don't pretend to...but this is at least as apparent as the supposed handicap Cronin walked into...

As the years have gone by, all of a sudden it's half a decade and I'm still hearing the same excuses...and people wonder why there's only 4k in the Shoe?...It has turned into a shell game, and the people who originally rejected Cronin as another conspirator in the high tech lynching that occurred, now recognize him for what he is...an opportunist who thought nothing of trampling over others to attain the level of his own incomptence...a walking, talking Peter Principle.

I don't know any of you...but I thought I shared a love of this University with all...And O's post made me realize that some don't share a love, but an agenda to support some and denigrate others...

all of us are not journalists on this board, were not trained as such, but the guidelines and ethics of same mean we don't post rumor and conjectrure and remain neutral with our thoughts, WE DON"T HAVE FRIENDS when behind the keyboard...

I cannot find one thread on this board that legitimately discusses Mick Cronin as a coach, because they consist of people that hate him because of Huggins and people that love him for some unknown reason. (BTW...if anyone ever finds another job with a five year get out of jail free card, sign me up). I thought what took place in 2005 was distasteful, dishonest and without ethics. But I wanted this program to succeed, continue. Went to games, contributed to UCATS...

The unfortunate truth is that there are many now who don't spend money, don't go, DON"T CARE. The successful dismantling of the Huggins era is complete, and UC is now starting from scratch. People may fill up the arena one day, but many will be new, different people. I am concerned about this. There are several games not televised this year, and others on internet only. When did we become Coppin State? We used to have every game on over the air TV or ESPN. Instead of talk over this, people continue to obsess over the coaches. Folks, the Titanic is going down...whoever has the captain's suit on at this point better just grab a life preserver.

I, too, am joining O as my last post. I am an insignificant part of this community, and understand that. But I love the University too much and cherish my experiences too much to participate in the discourse here. We got a building burning down, and we are wondering who is gonna hold the fire hose.

May the good Lord bless the University of Cincinnati.

(11-23-2010 01:20 PM)DelhiBearcat Wrote:  I love how the same people always bring Huggins into everything. At what point do the people saying Cronin is mediocre at best stop being "Bob Lovers" and start being "Correct"? Maybe some of you guys were wrong about Cronin 5 years ago...I know it's hard to believe...but maybe in fact you were wrong and he's not the guy for the program. The blind support will follow though...there's already talk of Cronin's "Great" recruiting class that doesn't have a guy rated in Rivals Top 122.

People don't like change. Most of us didn't like the last one in our coaching department. Hell...I remember me and my step-father wishing they had given Tony just one more season when they hired some thin guy named Huggins. There's that group of people that want to give Mick every chance in the world...at some point though...you have to give up.

Being a better fan than most of you, I attended the game last night 03-wink . Getting back to the original point of this thread, here's a couple pics I took of the crowd last night before tip off.

Check out that 2nd picture with the ghostly orb of UC's history of basketball success.

i debated closing this thread, and concluded there are a sizable number of resentments which have built up over time. so, i'm keeping it open.

everybody, vent your spleens. pent up anger and resentments, post 'em, within the confines of the AUP. I don't care if the posts actually relate to attendance. you got a gripe with someone(s), voice them on the board or to whoever is the focus by pm.

this seems to have become the spleen venting thread whether intended or not.

it is a rare event for me to edit, and rarer still for me to delete. that's been the history here, and it ain't gonna change. but those of you with long held perceptions of being slighted should address those perceptions before they are long held, and lead to some volcanic eruption.

Here's the bottom line: attendance will increase after some consistent winning and people deciding its a good way to spend their time and money. The posters on this board aren't going to fill the Shoe whether one or all are attending games. And I can't really blame fans who don't go to nonconf games against the likes of Craphole Valley State in the wake of 5 really trying years. And student support has sucked for many years and long before Huggs left. It is what it is and its sucked for years.

Calling out posters here aint gonna fill the Shoe. So why go that route. If you build it they will come. Cats keep winning crowds will go up as the season progresses, mark it down. They make the tourney this year and come next year you won't see openers with high school gym like attendance. It'll grow over time just like football has had to do. UC killed its own cash cow and people who want to blame the fans for not showing up to every game after five years in the abyss are misdirecting unnecessary anger.

This team plays hard and they look a lot better in the effort and execution department than other teams have in recent years. If they keep it up, the crowds will grow. Until then, I truly hope posters stop fighting with eachother and support the team how they see fit.

You pretty much summed it up Murph. On another thread a poster said to hell with people who didn't attend the last basketball game. I don't get that.

1) I am in town

Topic "B" ----

I have never had an issue with any of the mods here. Being a "mod" is a thankless, non-paying gig that allows one to be critiziced for stuff that others do. Sincere thanks to all who work to make this a place to read & post.

Topic "C" ----

I have never had an issue with any of the posters here. Not all are my favorite people, but all here -- except for Bucky Whatshisname -- are Bearcat fans and that alone puts me in good company here.

From time to time, I do get together with some of the posters here. REALLY good people if you ask me. As old as I am, I am usually the youngest one. We sit around, talk about the Bearcats, and compare all of the meds we are taking. REAL exciting stuff -- but I enjoy every minute of it.

Topic "D" ----

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Hope everyone has a chance to spend time with those who are important to you and eat LOTS of food.

Class is permanent and you're a classy poster Q. Happy Turkey Day.

One thing about message boards is much of the time any sense of nuance in posts kind of gets ignored. For instance there are times when I read some of Rath and Eastsides post and yea if I read them a certain way I could see how they could come off as an attack on some other posters and how they view UC athletics, but I read them and really don't get that impression at all. Certainly there are strong opinions on many aspects of UC (um..i should hope so if you are posting on a message board), but I don't think for the most part the intent is to come at people...

We do get some baiting posts here and there... the Jim Boeheim thread was a ludicrous attempt at baiting people into argument... I remember subflea making a post with similar baiting last week and I know we have gotten it from other posters too (of all different viewpoints on UC athletics).

I have been a Mick Cronin skeptic since the collapse in his third season. I gave him another shot last year and my skepticism grew to doubt that he could do the job (so much so that I called for him to be let go and even wrote a letter to Mike Thomas saying as much). That view puts me at odds with many here, but I have never viewed that expressing that view has made me an outcast with the board. I try to express that view clearly and I don't try to derail threads with it. (and since he is back I am going to spend there year hoping that Mick and Mike prove me wrong).

My general point is...lighten up people. You do not come to Bearcat Banter unless you are a fan and care about the program. We all may have different interpretations on what that should mean, but I have respect for each and every poster that comes to Banter and represents their views. You don't have to get into pissing matches in order to express those views and you don't have to take each and every post like it is a personal attack against you.

Personally i appreciate what B, Coop, Murph and even Chatter (most the time) bring to the board.

I also really appreciate what Rath, Eastside, MLB, and Sub bring as well.

I don't understand how it has gotten to the point where people take it so personally.

MODS you do a great job here and I appreciate your efforts. If there is ever any complaints about me feel free to send them my way so I can take note.

In the meantime folks...LIGHTEN UP. Enjoy being a Bearcat fan. Make your points and don't take things so freaking personally. O... Stick around. don't leave... share your thoughts many here appreciate them...hell I think most do.

We are all here because we love the Bearcats, don't lose sight of that.

anyways there's my two cents...

----Bearcatmark.

I'm not sure about O or Eastside, but if you say BH's name three times Rath will appear.

Too soon? Come on you pansies. To paraphrase The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, the Banter is family. What family doesn't fight?...and what family is more dysfuntional than our's here at The Banter? Through good times or bad, we always come home.

How long is the leave of absence for Eastside, Rath and O...NV gone as well? I'm with Delhi on this...Banter is a good group of guys overall from what I have seen on here over the years, the more the merrier.

After all these questions / debates of UC "fanhood" aside, [Image: th_facepalming.gif], I hope the board is back at full strength soon.

Oh. My. Lord. That is a microcosm of sports fans posters' board. Some things never change. It's like there's a "Great Awakening" and "Purging" every 5-7 years or so.

Murph29 was a good poster. He was still posting on here when I first joined in 2013.
