I'm not concerned about BDF leaving anytime soon though... for reasons others have mentioned, I could only imagine him taking the OSU, ND, Penn State, or maybe MSU jobs. If he delivers us to the promised land, I think UC is finally prepared to compete with the Purdues and Indianas of the world for coach salaries, even in the age of the P5/G5 divide. They might have more TV money laying around, but keeping BDF would simply be much more important to us than it would be for them.

For us, keeping a great coach could be life or death for our program... for Purdue, they just need some guy to get them to 6 - 6 most years to keep fans satiated.

I'm always a little surprised to see how quickly head coaches are willing to jump to "bigger" programs. Then you see Kevin Sumlin getting blasted at Houston, Tom Herman is feeling the heat at Texas and a guy like Butch Jones spends his days pouring coffee for Nick Saban.

At some point those guys have to wonder, "is the grass always greener?" Perhaps Fick sees that. We'll see.

Even when they see it, if they have a lick of sense, they can pour coffee for the Saban's of the world knowing they have seven figures wisely invested, often before age 50.

Better be 8 figures as 7 does not make it.

I'm a little worried about the lack of breakaway speed out of the running back position and of coarse the passing game. Just think we're gonna meet some d's that can take away the straight ahead pounding game. Thoughts.

Good point. A Bentley isn't the bargain it once was. :)

Doaks is faster than Warren, IIRC. Maybe not a speedster like RDAIV, but definitely adds another dimension.

Plus, we haven't even begun to see what Mclelland and Thomas can do.

Give me a running game that wears down a defense over the course of a game more than breakaway speed. Ridder looks pretty fast enough though. That said, you certainly desire a change of pace back to compliment the power running game. Someone correct me but I believe Thomas (who is close to 240 lbs) runs pretty damn fast for a man his size.

Warren averaged 6 yards a pop last year. His YPC is down this year because he's been getting a ton of carries and teams are stacking the box but I don't think he's slow by any stretch. When Doaks gets back and they can keep each other fresh you'll see a little more explosion out of Warren plus hopefully we can mix in the young guys. It's tough when you've got two really good backs who need carries and we're not going to be the type of team that blows many teams out.

Is Doaks coming back this year? What's his diagnosis?

I talked to a couple O-linemen yesterday. I would tell you but everybody would just tell me that I was trolling again.

Per the coaches show this week, he's day-to-day but likely will be back by league play. (I think someone else confirmed that elsewhere, but this is straight from the horse's mouth.)

Good point. I think two things help us with this:
-1- Read option. We’ve seen big plays the last two games where Ridder reads the DE, pulls it, and runs for 30+ on the outside. All of a sudden those LBs and safeties start to stop and think. Then they’re dead.

-2- Ridder has an arm. He has shown the strength to go deep, he just needs more practice and reps, which is why this week is important. Let’s work on that deep ball.

So Romell why be a debbie downer. Life is too short. You should have asked for a manager and discussed your issue higher up the chain. You let the person on the phone set the rules and you as the astute business person know better. So you took your basketball and went home. You got your victory but still want to bad mouth the university for some reason. $50 bucks or $300 for six tickets for a season ticket was a ridiculous price and looks like a financial loser to me. You should have recognized that. I have been an alumni for 40 years and attended many games both basketball and football plus bought tickets for my children. No issues.

RE: Some thoughts on being 2-0
One of my big concerns last year, and I know that a lot of it was the Jimmys and the Joes over the Xs and the Os, was the play of the defensive backs. I had very high hopes for improvement with Jon Tenuta on the staff.

Now with better athletes on the field and the addition of Mike Mickens as CB coach with Tenuta still as the Safety's coach I like what I'm seeing. Add in Stripling coaching up the D Line and Freeman suddenly has a lot more to work with in designing a defensive game plan.

Now in year 2 under Fickell and all of the expectations of being able to get away with slacking off like under country club Tommy gone, 2-0 has raised my expectations for the season.
