Tragic. I don't see how this isn't a clear case of negligent manslaughter.

I think that's exactly what it is, based on what we know so far. But I just wonder if there isn't more to the story.

It's at least manslaughter.

I help teach a gun safety course at a friends farm and this past weekend it wasn't the wimmens we had a problem with. It was grown ass men who can't seem to properly grasp a weapon. I asked one man if he knew how to use a screwdriver, in jest, and he replied - in all seriousness - that his wife handled all the mechanical issues in their home. One idiot was reloading with his finger on the trigger with one round still in battery and when he smacked the magazine of course the gun discharged. He was ushered to the porch and made to crawl under it as he wasn't fit to hang with the big dogs. I guess to be fair it was a beginners class. About 20% of those in attendance won't be accepted into the intermediate class.

I think I read that she was charged with involuntary manslaughter?

Guilty of Murder

Mistake or not, she shot a man sitting on his own couch

Hopefully the judge takes the circumstances into consideration and does not giver her the maximum sentence.

There must have been some degree of evidence we here don't know.

Really. Did the guy leave his door unlocked? Did she not notice it was unlocked? Did she not notice the furniture was different?

His door was probably unlocked. She claimed her lock had been acting faulty which is why she suspected a robbery.

I’m stunned that the cop took this to trial. If she genuinely believed that she was gonna walk away from this, then she is either disconnected from reality at a very basic level, or else was given some horrible legal advice. I don’t know what the plea offer was, but I’d bet it was something a lot better than what she’s going to get now.

She's a former cop who killed a black man.

She isn't gonna last long behind bars.

If she is mixed in with general population, then she truly is dead meat. But usually — again, *Usually* — ex-cops are not placed in GP.

Its all pretty fishy. She had to have been falling down drunk or on drugs. Or she had some connection to that guy and something went wrong. Could you really open the apartment door with him watching TV and not figure out you were in the wrong place? I suspect that is what the jury was thinking.

Yeah I do t think she deserves life. She made a series of mistakes and deserves to be punished, but this was not (as far as we can tell) malicious pre meditated murder.

She had just come off of her shift and I believe her toxicology came back negative. I wholly believe she could have been in some kind of dispute with him and tried to make it look like an accident. I think the grand jury and trial jury probably both looked at as whether on purpose or an accident, if you are that incompetent that you missed all of the car dealership size red flags then you probably shouldn't be on the streets.

RE: Dallas police officer kills man after entering...
I think she's definitely guilty of being an idiot. Premeditated murder? That's a stretch.

She should definitely be doing time though, IMO... how much is another argument. She had a Taser and a gun. She was dumb enough to walk into the apt, not notice it wasn't even hers and her first reaction was to pull a gun and fire? Logic tells you that as soon as she pulled the gun the guy was probably scared shitless (in his own apartment mind you), and would've easily been controllable. Instead she pulls the trigger? Something doesn't add up there. She's colossally dumb in my opinion, and deserves to pay for that.
