Interesting. Per this article, Longhorns have lost the edge they have held strongly for forever.

Helps when you have a 102k seat stadium and typically bring crowds of 105k+ For which many of the seats require hefty donations nations just for a chance at a seat. SEC money vs. B12 money doesn't hurt either

So aTm was right strategically to leave UT behind and join the SEC.

I'm not sure I'd jump to this conclusion. Perhaps financially the SEC offers more than the Big XII, but I don't see A&M competing for national championships in football, due to the competition they face in the SEC. Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Auburn are programs that are all performing well above A&M's level in football.

A&M could have won a Big XII championship in the Manziel era. I highly doubt they will win an SEC title in their first decade as members.

It's not like they ever competed for any in the XII, or in the SWC for a long, long time. If they get to the level of those other SEC programs, they will. And going against them as peers is one way to do that.

Moving to the SEC was a great move for TAMU. As long as they were paired with UT in a conference, they would always be positioned as the "little brother" to UT. The move allowed them to established an independent identity and become part of the richest athletic conference in college sports. The lack of vision in the Big 12 to allow UT to dictate the TV revenue conversations to ensure the establishment of the Longhorn Network backfired. TAMU will keep using the resources they have garnered to become competitive long term in the conference, in a similar manner Baylor used their Big 12 financial windfalls to eventually compete in basketball and football in their conference, although it took a long time to get there.

The Big 10 makes more than the SEC now. Michigan received $51M this year.

2017 was SEC ~40M. Big 10 ~37M. Big 12 ~34M. Pac 12 ~31M. ACC 25-30M

0 chance for us to keep up with that. Funny thing is A&M has led the arms race with their oil $ donations the last 10 years plus their SEC payout and they’re still never going to win the conference. A&M is going to be the same 7-5 team this year and next year that they were in the Big 12. Jimbo will get a nice 1M payout per win.

Texas had the first mover advantage with the LHN, although they failed to capitalize on it. It launched right at the time when UT Football started to decline. As a result, they received marginal benefit and pissed off everyone else. The failure to capitalize also ensured that others were able to catch up.

aTm definitely made the right decision moving to the SEC. They weren't any closer to winning a NC in the Big XII and now their exposure and revenues have skyrocketed.

Agreed. I don't know anyone from A&M that is not thrilled with the results of their decision to join the SEC and leave Texas behind.
