Congrats to Matt and Addison-- here's hoping you're among the top 1-2 starters and co-aces in the country in 2019...

Matt also ranked as the fourth best RHP in the Cape this Summer...

Quote:4. Matt Canterino, 2019 (Rice)
Strong, durable bodied 6-foot-2, 225 pound power pitching righty who misses bats. Has averaged nearly 11 SO/9 IP in his college career. Feature pitch is a hard, hammer curveball. It has all the components; spin, shape, movement and velocity of a plus ML pitch. Ranged from 76-77 mph. Also manipulated his curveball into an 81 mph slider-shaped offering with two strikes as an expand and chase pitch. Induced some swing/miss and it played above average. Threw the fastball mostly to his armside at 92-94 mph in his one inning appearance. More downplane than wiggle on this look. Also, had a fair feel for a change-up, more so as a useable complimentary pitch rather than an out inducer at the next level. Held a speedy runner at first base with a quick pickoff move, a 1.10 slide step and 1.28 non slide. A second look at Canterino showed similar stuff to the first. Fastball was again in the low-90s; 92-94 mph in the first inning, 90-92 in the second. Still very true with some downplane. Curveball at 77-78 mph was closer to average and slider was of similar quality at 81-82 mph. Pitched one and two-thirds of an inning while allowing no runs on two hits and one walk. Canterino has enough athleticism and stuff to start in professional baseball, yet the unconventional, high effort delivery with a head jerk may slide him to the bullpen down the road. Potential top round selection in 2019.
