RE: Hurricane Florence
Channel 2 in Greensboro reported there are rumors of substantial damage to the UNCW campus. Much of the campus is visible from College Road (132). The back side of the campus in 2005 had fewer big trees according to my recollection.

Has anyone seen the campus or heard from a reliable source? Channel 2's news leans to the sensational.

Here is a aerial video NBC in Charlotte took. The UNCW footage begins at about 3:25 and goes till about 6:00.

RE: Hurricane Florence
A great article about the tennis team on the Star News website. The parents of one of team members had the entire team ride out the storm with them. While in Charlotte, the team volunteered to man phones for a telethon to raise money for florence victims. Sorry I don't have the link.

I know my relatives had to make that trip. They had to go south to Myrtle beach and back up to find a route that wasnt closed and it took them 8-8.5 hours to navigate (back on tuesday I think). They live near Wilmington (I think its technically Bolivia). So not sure there is a good way yet unless water moved somewhere in the past couple of days.

Hope everyone down there avoid any major damage

RE: Hurricane Florence
I finally got home sometime Wednesday (via Kinston). The next day that route flooded at/near Kinston. There is a route now that goes from Raleigh to Washington (NC) to New Bern then to Morehead City & the back to Jacksonville. Once in Jacksonille 17 is open to Wilm. Not what you'd call a direct route. Am told traffic is backed up in spots.

RE: Hurricane Florence
Do you have power and are flood-free? Hope so Proff. Hang in there buddy! It will get better but it's gonna take time.

Wilmington was hit hard. My parents had a bunch of trees down but none hit the house this time like the recent one. I had a ramp installed for my mom and it was in the backyard. That thing weighed about 300 pounds. I had a neighbor help me and we reinstalled the ramp and had to put blocks underneath it to make it work temporarily. We lost about 4 trees in their backyard so I had to haul a bunch of it to the front for a contractor to eventually get to it.

RE: Hurricane Florence
When I got here I had power, satellite tv, internet, no flooding anywhere near me & a tree limb that only grazed the house. I felt as though the entire firing squad missed me! Lady luck certainly smiled on me - this time anyway.

RE: Hurricane Florence
My family has a house on Oak Island. No one has been able to check it for damage. We rent it in the summer, but the realtors have been too busy with issues involving their own homes and emergencies with rentals to check on all the rental properties.

My niece was planning on going there 9/27. She can let us know about or house, if she's able to get there.

Good luck to everyone!
