He was and continues to be at his best when the game is on the line. I will take him over Childers in the fourth quarter when you have a chance to win everytime. Why Rod and his staff could not see that will always be a mystery to me.
Did you forget about that terribly under thrown pass against SDSU? Then, the following series he threw another one. Not saying that Santa wouldn't be better than Childers but he was far from being a clutch performer.

I think the difference is that Santa played like an inexperienced qb with big upside. Childers plays like an inexperienced qb with little upside.
The inexperienced card can’t be played anymore. Our most experienced QB, Graham has 9 career starts, Childers now has 10 (5-5 record). He has thrown more passes in his career than Graham. Say what you may about Carey, but he set the table for Childers perfectly, starting him last year at the ideal point in the schedule, and sticking with him without any hesitation as he develops. Carey has had his back the whole way.

RE: Spencer Tears?
I'm just hoping to see improvement in Childers over the next several games. Iowa and Utah were tougher than all the defenses he faced last year. I'm guessing he'll still overthrow every deep pass because "it's better than an interception."
