Haven't been there, yet. I didn't venture very far from Surfside Beach. My favorite spot was Wicked Tuna, if you're familiar.

Given the newest projection, it doesn't seem that is a wise idea. My dad lives in Carolina Forest and I told him I don't have a canoe to get in on the single road from the highway to his subdivision once it dumps 4 feet of rain there and inland of there. Any and all creeks are going to flood to levels not seen before and it's likely many roads in those newer inland areas will be washed out.

Praying for you guys to be safe. Looks like you're going to be taking the full force of Hurricane Florence so please listen to the people in charge and don't wait too late to leave.

My dad, in Myrtle Beach, began his preparations by heading to the ABC Store. Let it be known that much planning and care is being taken by most residents.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people sitting directly in the projected path of storms end up underprepared while there are ransacked grocery stores 200 miles away from any real danger.

When you have lived around hurricanes and the hype that comes with them, you can began to understand why folks stay. I generally stayed at home rather than leave. Tough to know just where it will hit and it is generally very difficult to get back to your home after the storm if its in the hitting area. Have your generators, water, etc and stay inside away from windows.

Many evacuations along the NC/Virginia border now seem premature. I think the issue is going to be that many coastal towns are built along river banks and often times are built on each side of the river (not much has changed since the 1850's in terms of the towns East of Raleigh); wouldn't be surprised to see some small towns completely destroyed from this in the case the hurricane takes a northern track up into the Piedmont and Mountains of NC, SC, and GA.

Yep, I live in SW VA. Sunday night it was looking like we were facing catastrophic flooding, now most likely under 6 inches of rain (although a lot of uncertainty remains). Bottled water has been flying off the shelves. Hopefully it all gets put on trucks and sent to the Carolina's where it'll be needed.

My mother in law wanted to stay home last year during Harvey. Her home had never flooded before and was not in a flood are. The water started coming up and even though she was sure her house would not flood, she was evacuated by boat when it became mandatory. It was a good thing too because her house ended up with 8 feet of water in it.

The weather people are sometimes over reactive to these storms, but sometimes they are not.

Ok so I lived in Houston for Harvey and I rode that storm out.

So just to set the record straight NO ONE expected Harvey to be that bad. Heck, they didn’t even issue an evacuation order for Houston and the mayor took a lot of heat for that (wrongfully so in my opinion).

Harvey took all of us by surprise the way it stalled over the city for a week.
