Anybody notice #48 out there? I mentioned him earlier as a freshman to watch for the future.

Staff has him in a hybrid OL/TE role right now as a true freshman, and he's making a great contribution. He basically comes in as an extra blocker in heavy sets, and he even caught 1 pass for 20 yards against Purdue.

6'6, 282 lbs with athleticism.......great future ahead.

Same High school as Brogan.

RE: Brian Dooley
He caught the pass on the only gadget play of the day. They went into a bizarre formation with OT Armstrong lined up in the right slot. Nice catch and a nice play.

I was waiting for the double pass all day. Surprised we didn't see it. Glad we were able to win and save that play for another day.

I doubt it, get the best players on the field. With the OL graduations, this year will be valuable experience for him to be able to compete for a spot (likely LT), after adding some more weight in the offseason.

6'6 and athletic 285 already. Put 20 lbs on him for the perfect MAC LT. Move Sow to guard.

Based on what you believe Dooley could do at LT next season, Steve may be correct that our OLine might be more exciting next year:-)

Indeed. I'd like to know more about Saddler and (Marcellus) Johnson.

Saddler should be a good MAC recruit and I really liked the tape on Johnson.

Dooley is listed as a TE on the depth chart for Buffalo so lets pump the breaks on him as LT next season.

FWIW:
LT - Sow
LG - Donellan
C - Van Hoevan
RG - Rohrschieder (?)
RT - Nielsen

Dooley is interesting.

I don't really know much, but I'm GUESSING is that he can be used as an EXTRA TE for certain packages. Apparently his hands are good enough to make him a viable option for a short pass.

How does this effect his future and at what position I don't know.

I'm thinking that he could be the perfect blocking TE for sets requiring a 2nd TE. He will block like an OT and has good enough hands to keep the defense honest.

To expand the conversation, I think CC/Keen want to make the defense worry about as much as possible: Wiegers, Glass, Grissom, Holder, Dooley, etc.

There are all kind of weapons with those guys on the field...

BTW, will Dooley line up on just next to the OT, in the backfield, like Robinson did last year. Always liked Robinson set there and ready to block. That could be a 3 TE set for power run.

Also, Breck Turner FINALLY where he deserves to be on the depth chart: right behind Vann and Eriksen.

RE: Brian Dooley
Speaking of TEs, Gunnar Oakes has really come on strong this season. Looked great against Purdue, including that 15 yard grab. We worried about TE going into the season but seems the staff has made something out of nothing.

Yes I liked Oakes out of high school Swanton Ohio and stated so, both Dooley and Oakes played football in Northwest Ohio a very underrated in terms of quality competition. I also make a remark about him and the Purdue game, lets see if we can get him up to 240.

Howie is being slotted at Center on the scout team. He's been told that's where they see him playing.

Two most interesting things about Dooley:

1). He's playing as a true frosh.

2). His game jersey number, #48, which is not an OL number which means he can play OL, TE, etc.

So that means that CC saw him early on as a possible skill position player, i.e., back up TE.

I see him getting the plays that Thomas O would have gotten had he not been hurt.

RE: Brian Dooley
He's our LT in waiting. He's already 282 lbs as a true frosh.....not a TE. With Odukoya hurt, they looked at Dooley's size, maturity, and athleticism and said........hmmmm, perfect replacement for now for our blocking TE/extra OL for jumbo packages.

Perfect frame and feet for OT, just needs another year with the S&C staff.
