RE: UNCC game discussion
Looking forward to playing you guys in the rain! I think that will give us a fighting chance since passing will be much more difficult for both teams. Hopefully the lightning will hold off so that the game whenever its played does not get stopped over and over and over again. Sucks for the players and any fans that decide to show up.

The forecast when the team left had the storm going northwest instead of southwest.
Also Charlotte can't tidal flood like Norfolk and wouldn't have any sort of wind like the coast.

RE: UNCC game discussion
Much better weather...0% chance of rain here Thursday and relatively light winds.
Saturday evening will probably have winds in the 30+ mph range with rain. That would have been a run-fest all night in the slop. Although, depending on which direction you're heading, one could have just through bombs up in the air and let the receiver run under it 70 yards down the field for half the game. That might have been the best play calling this year so far....

Isiah Harper and others have plenty of speed. There are no running lanes and the awful play calling keeps 9 men in the box. To have any hope, we will have to pass first in order to establish any sort of running game. Since we have only FCS caliber QBs, I am rapidly losing any hope for a decent season.
Cal I usually agree with you, but this time I think using quicker backs like the two freshmen is the way to go. Against FIU the holes were there, but Jeremy with the ankle just can't get there quick enough. Jackson had a couple of decent runs in the second half, but they didn't stick with him. I agree our line does not hold blocks very long, but holes are there. The coaching staff needs to let Jeremy get to 100% before playing.
My biggest issue with line is philosophy. How is our line expected to get leverage when they are always in a two point stance. It is hard to get lower then your opponent in a two point stance. I am not suggesting telegraphing run plays, but mixing it up would help the OL.
Not necessarily disagreeing with you. The running lanes are not wide or open for very long. If we have a talented RB like Lawry who can exploit them, so be it. However, running side to side and stretching out defenses who have mobile DLs and fast LBs is not working.
We don't know if that works or not we rarely do that. Once in awhile we run a jet sweep.
Otherwise we have no real edge running game at all. Almost everything is between the tackles. No motion, no misdirection.
Consequently teams stack the box and dare us to pass.
Our offense is very simplistic, almost sandlot, and always has been
Ray Lawry cut so well and was so quick to the hole he was able to get behind the defense.
Like with TH, we may never see another RL.
The other aspect of our rushing game is that silly wide receiver screen that never has worked.
Some here have called it a "bubble screen". However the WR does not come back hard toward the middle and there is not a "bubble" of blockers in front - both of which are requirements for the bubble screen.
It is a naked WR screen that usually takes so long to develop that the receiver is in danger of getting smushed
BTW the rushing lanes close so quickly that the longevity of our running backs is questionable as they are getting smushed as well.
Hehe I like that word, 'smushed'
Totally agree about the simplistic running schemes, no misdirection, no pulling guards, nothing to confuse opposing defenses and defensive coordinators. Maybe the excuse is lack of adequate OL personnel. Everything is simple and predictable. We need to throw the ball more frequently and consistently to loosen up the stacked run defenses. It does feel like we are playing ball at a lower level than the elite of our league who have smart and creative FBS coordinators and schemes.
This is apparent in looking at both in game adjustments and 2nd half adjustments. We seem to constantly get out 'adjusted' - even when we have a good first half, the second half other teams seem to have adjusted and we come out with the same pedestrian offense and same defense - result is that we see two different games - outcoached. I can recall the excuse that we couldn't make in game adjustments because our players were young and inexperienced -- just wait. Well, we waited and what have we gotten -- an experienced team that can't make adjustments and misses coverage for easy touchdowns. After a while, the constant barrage of excuses is as tired as the offensive playbook. How about this for a new excuse, "We got our ass handed to us, by a team with better coaching, better execution, and more passion to win. PERIOD." I'd much prefer that than the invention of a seemingly endless string of excuses.

No, but they can flood flood. And being inland doesn't remove you from all of its impact. Not the same thing (lingering storm versus bullet of a storm) but ask Charlotte folks who were there at the time how Hugo was.

On offense the 49ers run predominantly the spread with some pro set looks.
Freshman QB Chris Reynolds is smallish but a fairly accurate passer.
He is no threat to run.
The rush is led by Jr. Benny LeMay who had a credible season in 2017.
Neither phase of their offense sets the world on fire. The 49ers run more but so far the pass has been more effective.
On defense the 49ers run a 3-4. It held App State to a respectable 4 yds per carry and Fordham to -9 yards.
We likely will not run well on UNCC.
The 49er pass defense can be exploited. It is the most vulnerable aspect of their program. Swiss Cheese.
The Charlotte kicker Jonathan Cruz is excellent. 5/5 FGs on the season including a 54 yarder vs Appy. 100% on xtra points.
This game will come down to ODU quarterback play, and whether our defense plays for an entire game.
It is certainly very winnable.
However, based on the the Charlotte kicking game and home field advantage:
UNCC 30
ODU 24
Not one other prediction?

I am just hoping to be able to watch the entire game at least. The first two were so bad I turned off the 4th Quarter.

That's what happens when potentially the two worst teams in a mediocre conference play at 4pm on a Thursday.

Try as i might, i can't find optimism for the outcome of this game. Coming off of two weeks of miserable play. A short week with of prep time to work on MUCH needed areas of improvement. Travel and offsite preparation since early in the week. Working in some sort of bizarre two quarterback system not because we have two quality QB's but because we haven't seen one quality QB. A secondary that couldn't guard a three legged turtle.
I am so hoping to be wrong but:
Charlotte 24
ODU 14
