We were trending like 2 on twitter and all over all national broadcast. In terms of publicity, we’ve never had anything close. Not NCAA tourney, no wens vs tenn....nothing.
Agreed - in the words of Ali - we just “shook up the world.” Every sports fan in the country has taken note. We are on the map.

Go Monarchs.
Agreed. If they can bottle that up and win 3 or 4 in a row the media loves stories like this.

Was moving a mistake? Absolutely not! I think we can close this discussion for good - we are Old Dominion University, we are FBS and we belong!!!

I still personally think the mistake is sticking with wood selig. I have to believe that an AD with a more visionary outlook could do amazing things here

Nah. There are several that will be trying to stir up support to fire Wilder as soon as we drop a couple more in a row. Not to mention our overall program's decline because we left the friggin CAA. Lol.
On the other hand, I just took a few minutes to look through 8-10 pages of drivel from Hokie fans on TechSideline.com and this social media "best ever/worst ever" pendulum might be even stronger over there. Online human behavior is really fascinating. Tell others they don't know squat, promise what is not possible, question intelligence when others disagree, and pretend to eat crow when we're wrong.
Perhaps one day I'm going to get used to this.

I really wanted to go to their message board and say "Im sorry that we were a bit classless and ran up the score."
Im gonna act like an adult for a change though.

RE: Was moving a mistake
I have really enjoyed seeing/hearing Old Dominion splashed all over the national sports shows both tv and radio. When I left for work this morning, my radio was on ESPNU from yesterday and the first thing I heard was Ted Alexander from his call of the game. Never gets old. It was the Duhart catch in the end zone when he was being held. One of the hosts said, “Gives me goosebumps.” You can get that kind of attention at FCS, if you beat a ranked team, but it’s a lot harder to do and it will never happen at home. Beating VT for the first time is special. Doing it at home is priceless.

LOL. My wife was reading of the VT sites aloud to me, and I was like "Holy Hannah it's the ODU board last week!"
Innerweb gonna innerweb, I reckon.

Yeah, I really think it was a mistake. Beating VT was great and all, but remember that thrilling victory over Campbell?

RE: Was moving a mistake
We've been gone from the CAA for some time.
The CAA has deteriorated substantially since then.
This is actually a good read from the JMU board.
FCS now really is about only JMU and NDSU
https://csnbbs.com/thread-858801.html
Any question as to whether we mad a mistake after reading that should be answered.
Between playing VT every year ( and especially the win) and the CAA decline we absolutely did the right thing.

RE: Was moving a mistake
Was moving a mistake? Probably not. Is C-USA the right place? Definitely not. I've said many times to many people that I still love the idea of playing W&M/JMU/UR as natural rivals. That being said, with the exception of maybe JMU, they are not moving up. Another round of conference realignment is needed to get back to a more regional conference. We don'y care about the Texas schools and they don'y care about us. Merge and redivide C-USA and Sunbelt!

RE: Was moving a mistake
I do.
I love the thought of matching our 757 talent against the tough football talent that is in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. I know it's expensive but managing ODU's travel budget is definitely not my responsibility. I just keep donating.
But I look at NFL on Sundays and brag on CUSA talent on a regular basis with pride. To me, playing on this level after 10 years is absolutely huge. I realize that I only speak for some of us though.

I may have been the only one or one of the few that was shouting NO as they ran the ball, and scored. Could have fumbled (See Oregon and Stanford that same day) and gave them the opportunity for a comeback.
Glad the guys won, but risky call imo. I wonder if ODU was aware that VT called their last time out (at a foolish time). If they didn't know, then the call made sense. If they did, then yikes.

I cannot tell you where I saw/heard it, but it is my understanding that BW has said that they did not realize Tech had used their last timeout until it was too late to change the play, and that the plan immediately was to kneel the next plays -- which there were none since Cox took it to the house.

Tech made a mistake taking a TO. That play had stopped the clock because of a penalty (unsportsman like) ? At least that's what I saw on the TV replay.

RE: Was moving a mistake
The win against a ranked VT was substantially better than a fcs championship. FBS is major league and fcs is minor league - varsity vs jv. Always has been, always will be.
That said, we need JMU in CUSA. Hope it gets worked out some day.
