I was all in for football but now I think starting football was a mistake. I miss basketball, we could have spent all our resources on B-ball and had an opportunity to be in the top 25, beat good programs, and go far in the tourney. Now we have a crap F-ball team taking all the resources and we are extending "has beens" that did not deserve to be hired to begin with, that schedules a bunch of HS teams for B-ball coach that cant even get UVA to play us.
Bingo

The only way football hurts basketball is by keeping us from being in the A10. I remember reading that football basically pays for itself. Or at least it was. If season ticket sales and attendance drop like a rock next year, sponsorships could dry up... then we may be in trouble.

Here is an idea....if still allowable by Tax laws, designate your donations to Basketball. Send a message you are will ing to donate but not to football until something changes.

I know as a Spartan, my opinion matters the least. Personally, and this is hindsight, I think it was a mistake. You went from one of the most promising teams in FCS, to a bowl season to hoping enough teams didnt get invited last year. Now you lost to a team that had lost to NC A&T, a fcs meac school. These losses are going to turn your fanbase. Even with rain, yall would still sell out. Last time NSU played at foreman, everyone knew it would rain and that was a sell out. What was different about last week. I think it would be good for ODU and the city of Norfolk to move back down.

Let's compromise...You don't get the cheater, and we get rid of the really bad coach for me?

LOL off really bad coach. How many coaches have better 4 year startup records? And done so in an 80 year old stadium with a 20k capacity?

How are you always wrong? I’ve never seen someone that is wrong as much as you are. He is the worst coach in FBS, which makes him really bad.

I have stated my belief that the ODU admin would not have moved had they known that both ECU would not be there and the Cox bill would restrict our ability to collect much needed FBS startup monies.

I am going to otherwise hold my opinion as I want to see what the new stadium does for recruiting.
Certainly there would be, indeed were, advantages to having cross town rivals NSU, HU, W&M, and eventually CNU as well; not to mention great rivalries with JMU, UR, and UD.

Using the startup record of ODU to support an argument now is ridiculous.
Coaching at this level is different, in sophistication, complexity, and recruiting. It's almost like saying that Gerry Faust should have stayed at Notre Dame because of his high school record (look that up).

In FCS we had a stadium, even though old, and a campus that reeked of Big Time, providing game day excitement tertiary only to NDSU and JMU in FCS. Of course we were going to always land top FCS recruits.

Today I saw a 49er team successfully play under center when the situation called for it, show motion, and use misdirection, with arguably lesser talent.
I believe we should stay the course in FBS until the recruiting results of our new stadium can assessed, but I am not sure that our coaches are sophisticated enough for FBS.

04-cheers

IMHO moving was not bad but the way we moved was bad. We should've hired an FBS coach and staff to get is there instead of rolling the dice with ShitShow Wilder who is at best an FCS coach period. Of course you can argue that no FBS coach would ruin his career at ODU with a crappy Stadium and less money to compete against the established FBS programs but rolling the dice is always risky and ODU admin took the chances on Wilder which is turning out to be a crapshoot at this level and then there is this Bastard Cox who put in this crap law that helps no one really. Again Moving was not a bad idea moving with Wilder experiment has been an unmitigated disaster so far.

It may be that he's not as good as he we thought he was and he's struggled to build off the transition to FBS, and it may well be time to part ways with him, but worst coach in FBS? Brad Lambert (today's win notwithstanding)? Mike Sanford? Scottie Montgomery? Half of the MAC? EVERETT WITHERS?

In the three years before this one, Wilder was 20-17. Not super great but three bad losses to start this season doesn't make him the worst ever. Again, may be time to reevaluate things, but that's just hyperbole.

And if you are trying to spin the first 4 years in FBS, well that was done on the backs of our stellar FCS players. (on offense at least)
That could certainly bolster the oft heard argument that top tier FCS players are better than the bottom tier FBS players.
In fact we may indeed be the poster child for that debate as we have gotten progressively worse as those players graduated out.

The FCS ODU team that won the CAA would kick our ODU ass of today. No question. Defense may have even been better then lol

Defense is definitely better now, but TH and co would torch it and SW and co wouldn't be able to keep up. Would be a 63-31 type victory for the Heinickes.

Wasn’t 2 years ago a lot of us on this board was worried if BW would be called up to a bigger program ... reality is the W and L mean a lot to a fan base . There needs to be a change at a few levels ...

I think it is easy to sit back now and say that moving was a mistake, but personally i think moving up was the correct decision. I agree that the FCS rivalries and playoff experience was the best for fan engagement, but like we all knew, its all about money. From what I have heard, football pays for itself in FBS. It we are able to afford to compete at this level, then I say do it. The odds of making a bowl game are greater than the FCS playoffs and the payout and significantly more. Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong has after ODU made the commitment to move up. Cox bill was the biggest thing to stunt not just football, but our overall athletic growth. Throw that in with a media deal that is all but non existent and we lost not only our ability to grow, but our ability for exposure. Now that we are headed for possibly a zero win season, everything is compounding into what feels like a mistake. Just my opinion on the matter. Regardless, its a tough time for everyone right now and at this point, it can only get better, I hope!

Agree 100% stay the course, get a new HC now! build off the excitement of a new Foreman Field AND the interest and renewed hope a new coach brings.

YES! Fans will be interested if we get a new coach, not if we keep the current one.

Oh trust me there are lot of rational folks here if not it will be like burn the couches, West Virginia style forum. For some reason you are on the other side of the spectrum and are seeing something with this coaching unit that we are failing to see. I do not agree with BW being the worst coach of FBS but he isn't a rung above the class of worst coaches. If you keep going to the first 4 years of ODU FB and how we have the best startup then you are attending the wrong meeting and it has nothing to do with what we are going thru right now. Lets hear your rational arguement. I genuinely want to know what your train of thought is and the contingencies that you'd weave into your plan if you were the AD. I am on the irrational train right now according to you and want the house cleaned.

Edit: you called me an "attention whore" and neg repped me i want to know what is that i have said to trigger it?

LOL off really bad coach. How many coaches have better 4 year startup records? And done so in an 80 year old stadium with a 20k capacity?

How are you always wrong? I’ve never seen someone that is wrong as much as you are. He is the worst coach in FBS, which makes him really bad.

A) This dude is obsessed with me so I have him blocked.
B) I thought personal insults were not permitted on this site?
C) Well stated point by you. Some people are just off the deep end because of a disappointing season. Rationality has no place for this board, you are fighting a losing battle.

A) You give a lot of people, a lot of ammo to dispute you.
B) There were no personal insults in my post. Calling you wrong is an insult to you because you don't ever believe you are wrong.
C) I am an extremely level-headed and reasonable fan. I saw this coming a long time ago. You like to call reality "the deep end". There are some fans that are all negative on this board, that is not me.
