Overshadowed by the other wins last night, this was a actually a really good win for GS and the conference. UMASS is usually better than their record indicates.

I agree it was a solid win but we still have some work to do.

Defense was reminiscent of some of our mid and late 80's teams.

In other words, kept them out of the endzone enough and kept the opponent fiddling between the 20's.

We won a lot of games with a really good offense and that defensive plan. Still a successful approach.

I'll take being #1 in scoring defense and #1 in redzone defense by the end of the year. Doesn't matter how many yards they rack up if they don't make it into the endzone.

We've allowed 6 scoring opportunities so far and given up 19 points total. That's 3.16 points per opportunity (PPO). That means we're allowing a FG on average when a team crosses the 40.

9.5 PPG and 3 PPO will win a lot of games.

Not just the 80's lol. Yes it is safe but is dependent on us doing well on O which we historically have. Against a team like App or Clemson probably going to be a tad more aggressive though.

UMASS told us we are not hot garbage and the trend line is up, Clemson...the check will clear....., ArkSt is will be the game to let us know if we are back back or how much work is left to do. After the first two games the ship has turned I am sure it will be a melt down if we go 0-2 in the next two but no denying we are progressing and not regressing anymore. I am getting a little more patience is required in the FBS vs the wasteland of the FCS.

If you hold an opponent to FGs, you can have an average offensive day with a couple of touchdowns and win.

This style of defense has won App a LOT of games the last few years. Defenses get broken by big plays. If we stop that from happening then offenses fall apart.

UMass started losing their composure late in the game Sat because they couldn't break anything. Hell their RB got an 8 yard gain on first down in the 4th quarter and slung the ball at the sideline in frustration because he couldn't break loose.

We got enough pressure to hurry up throws so that even if a WR came open the ball wasn't placed on target. I'd like to see sacks too, but for the moment I'm happy with minimizing the overall effectiveness of opposing offenses. We can worry about upping our sacks and TFLs as we go.
