As bad as this game was, trying to now watch Cincy and Little Miami play is eye clawing bad. Cincy has a 14 point lead but its a horrid game with 2 bad teams but somehow Cincy will be 2-0.

Actually, statistics were dominated by Marshall.

Passing Yards: Marshall 278 - EKU: 48
Total Yards: Marshall 376 - EKU: 187 (we doubled them up in both yards and score)
Touchdowns: Marshall 4 - EKU 2 (doubled)
Yards per play: Marshall 5.6 - EKU 2.92 (practically doubled)
Interceptions: Marshall 4 - EKU 1
Turnovers: Marshall 4 - WKU 5 (as poorly as special teams played with the turnover, EKU actually lost the turnover battle).

To be blunt, Marshall DID dominate statistically except for one category... and it's been so rare it might be the first time in 5 SEASONS we have had this...
Time of Possession: Marshall 27:49 - EKU 32:11.
... I believe this may be the first time since 2013 we have lost the time of possession war. Of course, EKU had 4 more offensive series than we did (thanks special teams), but the fact they had 4 more series AND the TOP was that close is remarkable.

I get what you're saying, Coach. But a lot of those yards came at the end, not when we should have put the game away in the first half. My complaints were the ST, and in MUCH less of a sense, the offense, but never the defense. I think you know this game was massively subpar save the defense. I agree, Green played well...The INT wasn't his fault.

At the end? About a third of them were in the first quarter, over 25% on our first drive.

The problem was that we couldn't run on them. Their NT played at Notre Dame, got kicked off the team and ended up at EKU. He ate up the middle. Their DEs were also very good. Their D line was much better than lil' Miami. If not for the special team blunders/turnovers, it would have probably been something like 42-3. That stuff was just ridiculous and lack of focus.

I appreciate the passion.... but our last three drives of the game were -8 yards, 5 yards, and 28 yards on the time killing drive. If anything, we did not do a good job in the last two drives to run out the game as 2 of those 3 drives were 3-and-outs. My complaint is the offense didn't go for the jugular in the 4th... but that's always been a Doc issue in that he tried to manage the end of the game rather than to go for the knockout.

I know you're disappointed in the O, but keep this in mind - We were one score away from posting our largest number on the scoreboard since Homecoming 2016. Despite being shortchanged 4 possessions (which on average could have been another 130 yards and 14 points), tonight is on the upper end of our scoring in the last 2 years. (Sidenote: yes, we could have looked for some more explosive plays from the rushing attack tonight).

Football is a game where adversity happens. It does in every game. Put away the expectations and FCS labels and we basically dominated this game but for 5 disastrous special team plays. Fix those mistakes and this was a 45-0 game.

Every team can fix a few mistakes and double their wins. The good teams don't make the damn mistakes in the first place.

While I usually don't make it a point to call out an individual player, I would seriously take Tyler King off of special teams for the foreseeable future. No doubt he's a difference maker out of the backfield, but a large portion of the special team miscues have occurred on his watch. 3 of the 4 special team turnovers against EKU can in part be directly attributed to him. His fumbled punt return, and the 2 punts that hit Herd players setting up to block for Kings return. It is incumbent that King alert his fellow blockers who have their backs to the ball in those situations by yelling poison if the ball is remotely close to hitting them.

Gaines is fully responsible for the one that hit him. I watched him the entire play. He made zero attempt to block his man off the LOS, complete laziness on his part which lead to him chasing the guy down the field and then getting hit in the back with the ball.
