Mike Hogewood
Just saw where Mike Hogewood died. He was WBRC sports director in t5e mid 80s before going to Jefferson Pilot.

I believe he may have had some UAB connection at some point too.

RE: Mike Hogewood
Not sure of any UAB connection but he was at WBRC before he was famous.

Was a good dude without an ego like some today.

Yes, Mike did radio for us back in the early to mid-80’s when Gary had to miss to do conference basketball tv broadcasts.

Thanks. Glad my memory banks still have something left.

The Hogwood's lived in my neighborhood. He was a genuinely nice person...always great with all us kids back then. The world is a lesser place today.

He was a good friend back in the day. In fact, he left WBRC to move to Charlotte about the time I was leaving UAB to move to Texas, and Coach and Mrs. Bartow hosted Mike and his wife, and me and my wife, for a farewell dinner at The Club right before we both moved. That was a nice memory.

He is the second Birmingham TV sports guy from the ‘80’s to pass away in recent months. Steve Phillips, who was sports director at Channel 13 for several years, died a few months back after a long battle with cancer.
