Agreed! And Barksdale would do it for half of what NIU pays Carey. AND, he would also serve as D Coordinator!

Lovie Smith will be out of a job in three years. Can we wait that long?

RE: Unofficial Search Committee
We could hire Timmy Chang as an offensive coordinator to run the run and shoot. He could recruit all those Maine South QBs to run that offense. Mix that with Jeff Knowles back at DC... And Matt Simon running the operation...

If fall from grace is our talent pool...
1.Jim Leavitt - Former USF Coach
2.Bobby Petrino - Louisville
3.Tim Beckman - Illinois
4.Rich Rodriguez - WVU, Michigan, Arizona fame
5.June Jones - Former Hawaii star
6.Greg Schiano - OSU DC and Rutgers
7.Michael Haywood - Miami Ohio
8.Art Briles - Baylor
Any of these salvageable? LOL

RE: Unofficial Search Committee
I see two rather large problems with carey:
1) He does not project much likeability. He really doesn't. If you won championships, I supposed fans would put up with it. But ...
2) lack of ability to recognize talent at the QB position.
Everything else, on the surface appears ok.
But, those to are rather significant issues. can he just remove himself from handling QB recruitment and development and media / fan relationships and we find someone that can do that? Is that a possibility?
I really hope some misguided attempt to save a few bucks by keeping Carrey and unimaginative or refusal to brainstorm solutions does not set NIU football back years and years like the Bears were set back when they decided to save a few bucks by not releasing a rot of a player named Cutler and thus delayed any progress towards winning by years.

Was happy Huskies edged this one out, but its clear to me now, a change is DESPERATELY needed at head coach. Are there any coaches in trouble at other programs this year that could be available?

More realistic options for us with Illinois’s budgetary mess would be plucking Matt Simon off PJ’s staff. He had a great career here and a really good recruiter. He’d be cheap too which is probably most important to NIU haha
Would love Sumlin but we could never afford him

RE: Unofficial Search Committee
Why would we be looking for a new coach????
hmmm- could be because ...
129th - NIU's total offense ranks 129th, out of 130, teams in college football. Through three games, NIU is averaging just 12.3 points per outing (127th). They average 132.7 yards per game rushing (102nd) and just 108.3 yards per game passing (125th).

We are better off hiring people we know truly want to be here. We don't need another Lee Corso. Another Joe Novak or a PJ Fleck type would be great. Not too keen on another Doeren or Kill because they left so quickly. That's why JL or Simon would work because it'll take a few years for them to establish themselves.

I’d add in-game decisions. He doesn’t seem to adjust well to what’s happening in the game.
What he does well? Recruiting. Defense. There seemed to be great team atmosphere going into this year, but that may be dwindling. If the team knows the wrong guy is leading the offense they will eventually turn on the coach for keeping him in there.

I always advocate for Illinois State's HC, Brock Spack. Guy's a Rockford native, played at Purdue and has posted a 70-40 record, going 35 -16 in the last five seasons. Plus they beat Northwestern this season and in 2016 (dont scoff, for an FCS team to take out any P5 team is an incredible job). Plus they reached the FCS championship game in 2014 and quarterfinals in 2015.
Plus, he's got a 'stache to rival Jerry Kill's.

I'd love to see Brock at NIU. He's a fellow East E-Rab! I'm afraid he'll be hired by another program after this year, however...
