ECU 41, UNC 19 with 5 minutes left. ECU has over 400 yards of offense, and their defense stopped the Tar Heels twice on fourth and one inside UNC territory. I think the ECU game will be difficult!

That is what you do as a team and coaching staff to respond to a poor performance the game prior. Lets see if the Monarchs and Coach Wilder can do the same.

Not to mention that ECU always plays with a chip on its shoulder against UNC and NC State. Third straight time the Pirates have beaten the Heels and none of the games were close.

So yeah, big changes needed. Let's start doing one offs with the power 5 schools to pay for a new coaching staff. Here's an outside the box thought: We keep hearing that this area is a hotbed for recruits, and that's the reason we can get good teams to come here. Well why don't we try and monetize that? Let's let the teams with the real money (I'm thinking like the OSUs and Michigans of the world) come and showcase their teams here in person. Screw that camp crap. Pay us to come here during the season. I don't know, just a thought. Still bitter about the current state of things.

It's a good thought, but if you are Ohio State (or even VT) you don't pay anybody for an away game. We sell the area by getting them to come here in the first place and it usually "costs" us a return game to their place.

I get that that previous way of thinking is the way it's been done. Just saying we need to try something different. We don't have a lot to sell. And it's not like we're getting the 757 recruits anyway, why not try and sell the exposure. You're right, maybe the OSUs of the world don't need it (just threw them out as an example) but how about some of the other P5 schools with the money that are looking to make a jump within their own ranks? The status quo is unacceptable.

While I'm not sure your idea would work, I have to give credit for some very good out of the box thinking.

To me there can only be one explanation for a team regressing so profoundly and that has to be coaching.

BW and crew need to be replaced. Selig has simply got to be willing to try something bold to finance the change and come up with the money to hire a real FBS coaching staff. At this point I don't think he can afford not to. Even with a rebuilt stadium we might see decreased attendance.

Food for thought. Based on the below, can anyone determine what the actual annual salary is for our coaching staff as a group?

Looks like January 9th is the operative date here. IF this season plays out as bad as it looks, I don't see any way Selig cannot fire Wilder. The money question plays out both ways and Selig is basically in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Buy outs are expensive, but so is loss revenue due to declining ODAF contributions and slowed ticket sales.

We're paying almost the same as App St, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Southern Miss, UNLV, Coastal considering coaches and assistants. Id say our results are not as good. Also, while our overall athletic budget may be high for CUSA, our football expenditures are evidently in the lower part compared against our conference peers.

If it was up to Wood Wilder would probably already been replaced. This is President Brodericks call....and Broderick likes Wilder. I don't know what will happen but I know what should happen. Wilder is in WAY over his head.

Pres. Broderick hired WS to make these decisions. Hopefully, he let's him do his job. It would be good timing with Fedora looking for a bounce back job this off-season.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around why this team is so bad this year. It's basically the same team that we had last year plus Duhart. I figured that they would at least be as good, where we went 5-7. Not only did I think we would be a Bowl team, but I would've picked ODU as a darkhorse for the league title, especially with all of the rah rah coming out of camp about how different it was this year. Needless to say, those hopes were dashed 3 quarters into the season. What happened? How did we regress so much?

Hard to really grasp whats going on. In 6 of the 8 quarters, we've played fairly well, but in the 3Q vs. FIU and 4Q vs. Liberty, we simply fell apart. We dominated FIU in the first half (and could have been worst with some better fumble luck) until the 3rd and 10 mishap. Recovered well and looked to have stopped FIU at the half except Noye is offsides for some reason! Then they just drove down twice on us in the 3Q converting multiple 3rd and 4th and shorts and we couldn't move the ball at all. Then moved the ball in the 4th, but couldn't convert to points.

I still think this team can win some games. We need SW to play well and I'd rather just put him in and sink or swim. Throw the freshman in and see if we can get some semblance of a running game.

We've had 27 drives this year. In 15 of those drives we have gotten into the opponents 40 yard line or closer. We have 23 points out of those 15 drives. In 1 other drive, we scored from 84 yards out.

I don't know the solution, but we have to figure out how to finish these drives. Too many are stalling in the opponents scoring zone.

Two primary reasons.
1. We cannot run at all, and we do not have TH or DW to pick up the slack, period.
When you cannot run, and you get closer to the goal line, the field compresses, making it more difficult to pass.
When you have a marginal passing game and no running game the drives stall.

2. Our supposedly improving defense has given up almost 600 yards and almost 500 yards respectively in two games to lower tier FBS opponents.

The "why" is more difficult to understand. With the addition of Weaver, our OL should be better. Unless Darius Garcia made more of an impact than I thought it makes no sense.
A limping Cox does not explain this completely, but we certainly miss Ray Lawry.
Neither LU nor FIU run/pass blitzed to any great extent. They played us straight up. In the past, we have had to contend with the stacked box and the blitzes. (Heck, our QBs are getting more time in the pocket than in recent memory.)
Opposing coaches are picking up on something, as our rushing game is getting little or no respect at all.

As far as QB goes, BL has has (substantially) the better passing stats.
12/19 183 yards 63.2% completion 9.63 yards per pass 1 TD
SW:
25/52 292 yards 48.1% completion 5.62 yards per pass 1 TD

BL is the better passer, but cannot run. SW can certainly run. In fact he is our second leading rusher with 75 yards, behind Cox with 77.

Has anyone asked BW about Drayton Arnold, our 3 star who can pass and run? 07-coffee3

I have no clue as to our defense.
The secondary was a question for me going in, but our vaunted DL has under performed and our LBs, who should be better than last year, have IMO, under performed as well.

EDIT: looking at the play-by-play on both games it appears that the opponents made 2nd half adjustments that allowed them to substantially ignore our rushing game, and more concentrate on the pass, thus shutting down our offense almost completely, even before desperation pass time.
