tl;dr: angry newb repeats everyone's gripes

So I'm a very infrequent poster, and this is actually the first thread that I've personally started. But I've been an avid reader of this site, monarch nation, and the caazone, so I feel like we can skip the awkward get to know each other phase. I've been affiliated with ODU since I was a toddler, been going to basketball games since I was in middle school, and have had most of my family go through and graduate. I've supported and defended the athletic program and the university through thick and thin for most of my years on this earth. But I've finally reached a breaking point. There seems to be absolutely no momentum at all. I use to go to the basketball and later on the football games because it was fun. It was an experience. The last few years I've gone out of a sense of obligation. This year I'm not feeling like even doing that. I've said all this to say that changes need to be made. What changes? Who knows. But i do know we need money. The landscape is changing, and we need to change with it. If that means whoring out for bodybag games, so be it. I've got more, but I feel like I should stop here and take a breath haha.

The Liberty game was a body bag game! 04-cheers

RE: Rant
Couldn’t agree more. Been a long time fan of many sports at ODU. I am excited to see what’s going on with the women’s program, but the men’s basketball and football teams are a struggle to watch. They both used to be enjoyable. It’s not even about winning games really. It’s the style of play. The “slow it down and grind it out games” aren’t attractive and we’ve lost a lot of fans because of it.

I think the fans that clamor for us to return to the FCS miss our regional rivals, but more than anything they miss the excitement of the how the team played during those years. Those teams played very aggressive. Our coaches have become more predictable and cautious which hasn’t been successful. Just my two cents.

While I’m not as down as ODUgrad10 I have recently thought, why don’t we go back to the airing it out offense. Rich Nagy is not a good enough D coordinator to win us defensive games.

I’m ready for a winless season if it brings some change. It’s going to get worse before it gets better anyway.

We don’t have a QB that can air it out.

I share these thoughts. Definitely sucks but I really dont feel like Bobby is the coach thats going to take us to the next level...again.

He got us into FBS and still has a strong overall record so that could help him out with his next FCS gig...

I think Williams could air it out. I think he would work well in a air raid offense over a grind it out offense.

It takes more than the QB.

I am not sure if the OL is up to that (really not sure, time will tell)
You also need the receivers. If Duhart is the only receiver that fits into the air raid spread scheme, then it won't work because he can be doubled out.

2006 graduate here... the last time I truly remember feeling something inside of me after an old dominion game was the 2011 loss to butler. Since then Ive still shown up but I cant seem to shake my ho hum attitude towards this athletics program. I also feel like I root out of habit, but it’s been 12 years since I’ve graduated (wtf) . At some point the fact that I earned my paper at old dominion won’t be enough to make me feel obligated to come out anymore. It does make me sad... my interest is fading fast and I cant get excited for this stuff anymore

Wood seligs old dominion sports just seems like a cheap knock off of the previous iteration

In December it'll be 20 years for me. WTF x 2.

I don't attend that many games in person anymore since I don't live near there. I love that we have FB and I'll always be a big BB fan, but its been a pretty disappointing last few years. That butler game was a kick to the crotch. I got to see it in person.

So the Heinicke era did nothing for ya? And neither did the Trey NIT run?

I went from heartbroken in 2011 to meh the following season and finally to totally numb the season after that. have not really recovered since. Football was never my thing, though I still support, so no

I can’t honestly put into words what it used to mean to me. You couldn’t console me with the worlds largest ice cream Sundae and 90s jenny McCarthy on top after a basketball loss. Now... hah, well it’s just oh well

That honestly sounds like it doesn't matter what happens you'll still feel the same way. Even if we get a new AD you approve of, a coach who fits your wants, get back to the tournament on a regular basis, you'll likely never get that back.

Thats pretty sad. I dont think I will ever feel the way you do. Sometimes it sucks but other schools have it way worse than we do so just be thankful.

Maybe you’re right, I don’t know. I just know that it feels very different than it used to, to me anyways.

I used to be that way with pro sports, didn't miss games, crushed after losses. But it became a chore and as I got older, my/our free time gets more valuable and sports seem less and less important. Now, I havent found that lack of care for ODU. But I can see it how it happens.

Ditto for me and I'll tell you why. The whole program had more of a fun feeling to it. Now it's all business. I'm sure that Ohio State, Alabama and North Carolina have a business feel. But they have regional, national and conference success to soften the edges. We don't.
