Chin up, Pirates and Owls!
In 2007, Michigan lost to FCS Appalachian State and started 0-2 and still made it to the Citrus Bowl!

In 2010, Virginia Tech lost to FCS James Madison and started 0-2 and still made it to the Orange Bowl!

Honestly after taking a few days to settle down we very easily could've been up 35-14 or so at half time. We really did this to ourselves, the fumble on the goal line was 100% self inflicted as was the INT pick 6. This year the defense is light years from where it was the previous 2 years. We still have some size issues up front but we are in the right scheme and players are where they should be to make plays. They only gave up 21 points Saturday and were 70% on third down. One drive busted us from having a really stellar game on defense and winning that game.

The offense has regressed every year and looks just horrendous so far this year. QB is an issue, RB is an issue and OL is an issue. QB and RB could shake themselves out on their own but the OL is the worst in the AAC and will not get any better. We have a talent and depth issue that has not been addressed since the new staff got here. Also play calling will continue to be an issue, Petersen is just a REALLY, REALLY bad OC.

There was a Houston fan here who pointed out Temple’s slow starts. Last year we barely beat Nova week one, but eventually won a bowl game. Two years ago lost to Army game one went on to conference championship. Right now we can only think about Buffalo and fixing this season now. There were so many problems last week don’t know how they can address them all in one week when they had months before the season started.

Kiffin would be a great hire, but Briles can go to hell. That guy should never work in college athletics again.

who remembers that time ohio slate lost in embarrassing fashion to a barely .500 vtech only to win the national championship

vtech isnt an fcs but your goal isnt a national title (its relative)...

temple and ecu both have the schedule for redemption..

for temple, buffalo is a projected bowl team.. beat buffalo and 1 of either (maryland or bc)..and the ship is righted
i saw 3 interviews with qb frank nutile (who played horribly) he owned his play and took responsibility, he also talked about reaching out for help from former qbs. i loved everything i heard from him this week

for ecu, your goal was 6-6, you still have 11 games to go...the team you hate the most comes in next week also playing bad..you beat unc and you guys know youll be hyped

realistic redemption is in the grasp of both team in the immediate future

As much as I want to believe the bolded portion of your post, I'm not sold yet:

We gave up 269 total yards and 21 points to A&T. Jacksonville State (FCS) gave up 148 yards and 20 points to A&T. We gave up almost double the yards and the same amount of points as a lower division school against the same team. I know football math equivalencies don't really work, but I'm concerned.

In truth, none of us expected to miraculously have a shutdown D this year, we were really just hoping that the defense would be able to have a few more drives per game that didn't end in points. We may have that, but I think it's way too early to say that this defense is light years ahead of the last two years. We're going to know a lot more on Saturday evening.

Everything else you said is correct, IMO. The offensive playcalling is straight up garbage and has been for three years.

One random (and angry) thought I have: I get that we run some identity-less variation of the spread. I get that our OL is weak and isn't going to run anyone over on the goal line. Really, though, is it crazy of me to think that, if we're on the 2-yard line, putting in a jumbo package I-formation kind of thing with the quarterback under center is going to be any worse than the stupid crap we do on the goal line now? Or does Peterson think it's against the rules to line up in a formation other than shotgun or pistol?

How could we forget that VT win over Ohio St.? The very next weekend this happened.

For ECU to actually get to 6-6 now without winning the A&T game is virtually impossible. I think the @VT, @USF, UCF, and Memphis games are pretty much no hopers, so you've gotta find 6 wins out of UNC, ODU, @Temple, Houston, @Tulane, UCONN, and @Cincy. I'm tempted to have the Houston game in the no hope category as well, but being at home and with the every present possibility of Cooging it I'll have it as an extreme long shot but not completely impossible. Of that list of games 7 games how many would you favor ECU in? How many of them do you think ECU will be 2 TD+ underdogs? My guess is the answer to the second is a good bit larger than the first.

This. The state of our program is sickening honestly. I hope like hell there is a great deal of improvement but I really don't see it happening.

Since Mo came to EC, the OL has bothered me more than the defense (which of course has also been awful). Mo's first 3 games, Western Carolina, NCSU and South Carolina, looked like normal football games. But ever since game #4 (Virginia Tech) the Pirates have been playing with quarterbacks being rushed or getting their brains bashed in. Our quarterbacks have looked continuously rattled in nearly every game. There are so many facets of the program that need improvement, but O line development will open up the running game, protect the quarterbacks and gives us time to get plays off. Offense might not win championships, but it can win more games than we're winning now.

Go Pirates

This. QBs look bad when they are getting hit after every other toss.

It's about time to find a decent OL recruit and buy his mom a hyundai.
