Yea that ultra-deep RB crew didn't show much in Lynchburg. Hopefully we can become deep with a guy or two that can move the chains real soon.

You do realize that there are RULES to redshirting right? If you have played a down this season and you aren’t a true freshman, you cannot redshirt.

Of course injuries could happen and a medical redshirt can be sought, but no not “anyone can redshirt”

So Hurts from Bama is a junior and plans to redshirt unless the starter gets hurt. Hurts played in week 1 and can play 3 more games.

From BW's raindrops on roses show, to posters on this board.

We are in massively huge doo doo if we HAVE to rely on an inexperienced and very young quarterback to win games.
Where the hell is our running game? LU is not Alabama, How could our RBs gain only 86 yards against a heretofore mediocre FCS defense???
Once again we have (all the signs were there last year) an anemic one dimensional rushing offense that looked pretty good only in 2016, due in large part to the skills of Ray Lawry.

C'mon.
The entire success of ODU football should NOT be the responsibility of one 18 yr old young man. He needs time to mature; emotionally, physically, and skillwise.

All things being as they should, Blake LaRussa should be our QB. At this point of a balanced FBS development, while not spectacular, we should have a ball control offense that can run and pass efficiently.
Right now we are back to where we were with TH, without TH. That is no way to construct a solid football program.

Bobby mentioned that SW was our starter in part, because he could run. At this point in our development we shouldn't have to rely on an escape artist to win games.
If he wants him to run, then install a dual threat offense and take advantage of that skill rather than use it for desperation.

I believe in the system concept. Develop a sound fundamental scheme and philosophy and drop players into it. Try your best to recruit players that fit the system.
When you get an exceptional player, Like a Lawry or TH, then you will excel. In the years you don't you are still competitive, if not a league champion. In the long term this will stabilize recruiting and reduce volatility in the fanbase.

The apparent haphazard feast or famine ODU philosophy cannot sustain this program.

[end of rant]

He's a very limited QB and if he were to start at QB, if (BIG IF) it increased our chances of winning, it would be by the slimmest margins possibly. He is no threat to run which puts a damper on the read option that is a stable of our offense. What we saw last year was teams loaded the box because of Larussas inability to get the ball downfield (Williams has the arm strength too....but does he have the accuracy?) and inability to scramble/avoid sacks.

If Williams plays like he did from WKY to the end of the year (100-151 for 1,025 yards, 6.79 ypa, 200 rushing yards on 65 carries), he is the far better QB. If he plays like he did vs. Liberty, he most certainly is not.

There is plenty of upside If SW is not ready. Maybe he is even having a Sophomore slump.
BL is smart and as someone else said, BL can manage the offense and will not lose the game. ( I still want to see Drayton Arnold).

If the read option is the staple of our offense then it is not working.
In fact SW ran only three times in the first half, and one was a designed only run (4th & Goal at LIB 1(9:55 - 2nd) Steven Williams run for 1 yd for a TD)

In any event, FIU is going to answer a lot of questions.

I completely agree. And the reality is if SW has a bad start, the crowd is going to insist there be a change. I hope the last game was a fluke and SW takes the reins.

And I would hope Wilder wouldn't give in to the whim of the fans. I don't want us dictating strategy/personnel. If he wants to replace him because it's his decision, fine. But do it on his terms, not ours.

I’m a Wilder supporter, but a repeat of the Liberty performance tomorrow will be an indictment of his coaching ability. The strategy/coaching last week was inept. I’m hoping for the best, but I’m still beyond ticked and actually embarrassed about the loss.

Can you show me where it only applies to freshman? Nothing I've read says it only applies to freshman.

The 4 playing seasons in 5 years still applies.

Barring something new with the 4 games/redshirt thing that I haven't heard about, Giles is correct. Typically, it is a true freshman, yes, but that's not a requirement. My SO thinks Christian Byrum played his FR, redshirted his So year, but I'm not looking that up right now. Y'all can correct me later if needed.
