Praying for all you coastal states.

I know quite a few people in the Virginia Beach and Norfolk area. In fact, I originally planned on being there for business, and have adjusted my plans now.

Thanks guys for this thread!

Keep us posted. Just checked the latest...things keep getting worse.

Spent the morning moving all of my loose yard items into my storage building this morning. It may or may not hit, but it is a good opportunity to clean the yard up.

Still can change but looking most like a sc landfall. A couple tracks have it comijg eight through Charlotte as well, which would be devastating to our aging oak tree population. Selfishly I hope it takes the more easterly track.

Bump, because talking about a Category 4 hurricane ******* up the Carolinas and Virginia is more pleasant than talking about CUSA football.

I know others are going to get hit harder but not liking the latest projections.

This has a potential similar track to Isabelle. Going to push a bunch of water up the Bay. Started hurricane and storm surge flood prepping today.

Yikes -- I'm sitting in Raleigh. Went to the grocery today, already out of water.

This is not looking good. I have ridden out a hurricane in Raleigh (Fran). Don't ever want to do that again. It looks bad for some of us in NC. Will say a prayer for all my C-USA friends.

This is a really good weather site in Houston that we count on greatly for honest reporting (no hype like you see from the weather stations). The last graphic on that page isn't good news for North Carolina and Virginia. If the storm stalls after making landfall (like Harvey did last year), they're saying 6-12 inches for large parts of those two states (which is where we started from Harvey but it quickly went to 20-30 inch predictions).

Big prayers - please take the storm seriously if you live in an area prone to flooding.

5am update. Still looking like southern NC landfall. Should still be prepared either way. And I highly recommend you all start looking at the source of info (nhc.noaa.gov) for everything rather than the fear-mongering people just telling you what they see on nhc.

American model (purple) predicting northern NC, southern VA landfall. Euro model (orange) set on NC/SC border.

Majority of models are predicting Cat 4 landfall with a few at Cat 3.

RE: Cat' 1 Hurricane on VA shores next Thurs.
It's not looking good for SC/NC right now. Perhaps the mods should change the title of the thread as both the geographic location and intensity of the storm are misleading with the new information?

I agree with those who recommend you stay tuned to the National Hurricane Center for the latest information. They have new updates at 5 and 11 AM EDT, and 5 and 11 PM EDT. Here are their latest key messages:

Key Messages:

1. There is an increasing risk of life-threatening impacts from
Florence: storm surge at the coast, freshwater flooding from a
prolonged and exceptionally heavy rainfall event inland, and
damaging hurricane-force winds. While it is too soon to determine
the exact timing, location, and magnitude of these impacts,
interests at the coast and inland from South Carolina into the
mid-Atlantic region should closely monitor the progress of Florence,
ensure they have their hurricane plan in place, and follow any
advice given by local officials.

2. Large swells affecting Bermuda and portions of the U.S. East
Coast will continue this week. These swells will result in
life-threatening surf and rip currents.

App and Southern Miss is going to a sloppy game. USM better have some semblance of a running game otherwise it could get ugly.

Also, Dare County, NC is under mandatory evacuation. I assume Norfolk will likely issue some sort of voluntary evacuation orders if the storm turns further north.

I think it should just be "Hurricane Awareness" as Hurricane Isaac is not going to languish far South for too long,.

And there might be something cooking in the western Gulf in a few days.

And Olivia! About to hit Hawaii from the east-northeast, which has never happened.

And Guam is about to eat a typhoon, though I don't think even CUSA is that spread out.

Models looking ugly right now. I remember last year when the models showed 50” around Houston a few days before Harvey and I thought there’s no way that could actually happen...

I lived in Charlotte for awhile and if NC gets anywhere near the 20” forecasted for some areas it’s going to look like Houston did last year. Stay safe and never cross running water!
