ODU Coach Jeff Jones says that his prostate cancer is back. It sounds like things are well right now but we all need to keep him in our thoughts.

Sobering.
He seems to have a good attitude about life and handling this in stride.

Sorry, no things are not really well right now. I realize the ODU press release is very obtuse on that point but read Harry's article and you will get the drift of where things really are and where they are, sadly, going.

Specifically this:
Quote:In spite of radiation and surgery, tests indicate prostate cancer is growing in his body. He’s upbeat and says the cancer won’t affect how he coaches. He plans to coach throughout the remaining four years on his contract, and modern medicine may allow him to do so.

But there’s no sugarcoating that this was a setback for the 58-year-old who recently became a grandfather. He has a particularly aggressive form of cancer that likely can be controlled for years with medication. But for how many years, no one really knows. There is no known cure.

Radiation is no longer an option – it can only be used once. Jones said doctors told him, “It’s not going away. We can manage it, hopefully control it, but I’ll always have it.

Terrible news, stay strong JJ. Harry's article is very sobering, this does not look good. I hope Jones is comfortable and happy that he at least is doing what makes him happy.

RE: Prayers for JJ
Fellows be cautious of your body and health. If something doesn't feel right talk with your doctor. I know us guys don't worry about our aches and pains but sometimes there are serious causes behind them. I was fairly active in my mid 30s in good health. I had a dull pain in my waistline right after the Bahamas Bowl, Christmas Holidays and two immediate family members unexpected deaths all within 10 days of each other. I figured it was from eating too many holiday dinners, being a pallbearer and the excitement of the win down in the Bahamas. Life was to busy dealing with estates and what have you when dealing with deaths in your family and I let the dull pain go on for 5 months before seeking a doctor. Diagnosed with cancer, 4 surgeries, 5 CT scans, 1 round of chemotherapy and for the first year an oncologist visit once a month for blood work.

Live your life to the fullest before your hourglass runs out of sand.

That’s really awful.

As someone who’s lost a grandmother to cancer, an aunt to cancer and who’s mother currently is in remission for the third time, I know how awful this disease is.

Prayers for JJ, regardless of the job he’s done or hasn’t done, he’s a human being and deserves our sympathy.

Thoughts and prayers to Jeff and family

I had it 8 years ago. Elected to have surgery, so far so good, but you never completely relax. I learned that a PSA test that's negative simply means no cancer cells were detected in that one sample. In fact, we all have some cancer cells in our bodies.

Scary.

I'm currently at 15 months. At what point in remission do you start to relax a little? My oncologist said year 2 but has me on a 5 year plan. Did you continue to have testing done after year 5?
