Just for fun, let's get out the tape measure and scale to see how the Blazers match up with their next opponent...

Number of players weighing 290lb+:
UAB- 28 (max 385)
CCU- 13 (max 315)

Number of players 6'3"+:
UAB- 47 (max 6'8")

Coastal has a 5'11" 165lb CB... I'd take Donnie Lee at TE, run him on a 5yd out, have Ubosi block the OLB, and let that CB try to bring him down.

RE: By the numbers: Coastal Carolina edition
Their offense is mindnumbingly dangerous and they will move the ball on us. We need to make them kick FGs and win the turnover battle. We turn it over three times and it will be Charlotte revisited. We take care of the ball and play solid then laying the points is safe.

I would NOT bet this game either way with the spread but if you put a gun to me I would lay the points betting we win the turnover battle. No spread I take UAB for the win.

I don’t think their defense is as good as it was last year. I don’t see them stopping us much it would be more of us stoping ourselves with TO and penalties.

Their starting O-line has decent size, but they are young... mostly fresh and soph. We need a decent pass rush to keep the QB on his toes; we'll do that with Keely back.

They slow down the pass rush with all of the misdirection and eye candy out of the backfield. Just because South Carolina had some success causing havoc against their offensive line, doesn't mean we will have the same success. It was a pretty evenly matched game last year and I expect the same this go around.

Agreed. Also agree with ATTALLA that we have to win the turnover battle. We should be able to pound it with Spencer and wear them down in the second half.

RE: By the numbers: Coastal Carolina edition
i think we're better than last year. no idea if they are better/worse/same.

but last year:
they had more first downs (23 to 18)
they had more rushing yards (227 to 169)
they had more total yards (327 to 274)
they had more time of posession (33 to 26 mins)
they only punted once
fortunately, they threw 3 interceptions

all that at home.
i think we'll win, but this game worries me.
im sure coach clark has pointed out that we struggled against them last year in many ways

Their offense is as good if not better than last year.
Their special teams are better.
Their defense is not as good as last year.

We are better in all three phases plus a lot deeper.

I think UAB wins by over -10! They are starting 3 SO, 1 Jr and 1 FR on the offensive line. The RB is a SO and the two wide outs are FR and SR.

Their defensive line has 4 sophmores with 1 So LB and 1 SR and JR. Their secondary is deep SR and Jrs though.

I like UAB a lot in this game. We win by 3 touchdowns.

RE: By the numbers: Coastal Carolina edition
That would have been how we beat Charlotte last year if we would have not turned it over three times and kept giving them first downs on penalties after we stop them on fourth down. Next thing you know it's OT and they go for two for the win.

Yea play a clean game and we pull away late. Play sloppy as I eluded to and it goes down to the wire. That is really our formula all season. We can win 10-11 games. Reality is we won't be clean all year and have a clunker or two. Question is when or if we have them.

If we don't have them it could be a special season. Reality is we have one or two we shake our head about and say how in the hell did we lose that one? Then you look back to miscues, penalties, and turnovers.

If I recall, we didn't really take it to Charlotte like we should have the first 3 quarters.

We allowed them to hang around & they took advantage of it.

Looking back, that game & the UNT game would have turned a good season into a very great season.

Do we know if Coastal has the same running back as last year? I remember him being a beast

RE: By the numbers: Coastal Carolina edition
I would have liked to attack Charlotte better but the fact if the matter is our miscuses lost that game. It’s easy to blame the former Oc and I get it but he didn’t lose that game to be fair. Three turnovers. One literally took points off the board insidebthe 20 and the def naw gave them first downs three times on drives due to penalties after we stopped them. (One after a turnover) they scored on all three drives.

I wanted BV back but I’m just being real about that game. The old OC is due criticism but let’s not forget why we lost the Charlitte game. Had we had one less turnover it never goes to OT. Had we been relatively clean we win by three scores. We play like that running any offense and we will lose.

I think we will struggle to beat UNT this year with a better OC and damn near came back last year.

RE: By the numbers: Coastal Carolina edition
Last year we went up 23-5 and our brilliant OC got extremely conservative and stalled the offense and wore our defense out. Coastal started running a lot of misdirection and really confused our defense.

This game scares me but then again i have been around UAB football long enough that every game scares me.

I'd say this - their stats against SC are about as meaningless as our against Savannah St. It's the usual SEC mismatch, plus SC is decent this year. It wouldn't surprise me if they beat UGA Saturday.

If we play our game and minimize TO's and penalties we should be fine.

When I made this prediction, I had no idea how awful our linebackers are...
