Fan Misery Index
Source: https://www.goodbullhunting.com/2018/9/4...sery-index

The Fan Misery Index (FMI) uses a simple integer scale of 1 to 9 to measure how much suffering each teams fans are experiencing through the course of a season.

The two most important concepts to understand are:

1) Generally speaking, fans of good teams are just as miserable as the fans of bad teams. This is because of Football Satan’s right-hand man, a foul demon known only as “Expectations”.

2) Football is pain and the base emotion is misery, so all teams start off the season in the Third Circle.

A Team's Fans go UP a level if they:

- beat their rival (for us, we'll call it Charlotte)
- put together a 3 game win streak
- put together a 5 game win streak
- are unranked and beat a ranked team
- are ranked and beat a team ranked higher than them
- beat a P5 team by 21 points or more
- make the college football playoff

A Team's Fans go DOWN a level if they:

- lose to their rival (Charlotte)
- put together a 3 game losing streak
- put together a 5 game losing streak
- are ranked and lose to an unranked team
- lose to any FCS opponent
- lose any game by 21 points or more
- fail to become bowl eligible

So where does that put us after Week 1? Level 4.

We start at Level 3 out of 9. The higher the number, the more miserable we are (think 9 circles of hell).

Since we lost by 21 points or more, we have moved down from Level 3 to Level 4.

What does reading something like this do to the index?

- fail to become bowl eligible

At some point, misery gets replaced with indifference. I mean, I am watching and cheering, but have resigned myself to the fact that we suck this year and that 2018 ODU Football is a lost cause. Hope to see some freshmen sign during that last 4 games.

Yep, the only time I really felt misery was in the 3rd quarter of the Liberty game. Since then it has been indifference. Only thing that will spark any kind of emotion from here on out is if Drayton gets to play and shows promise. This season is a loss, but at least that would give a glimmer of hope for the future. Unless that happens, it is unlikely I'll watch another snap this season. Hopefully basketball gets off to a good start.

The worst part of that article is the first bit:

That is what it feels like to have your face shoved in poop.

Do you really want only 3 weekend (Saturday or Sunday) home games during conference play? Because that's what that schedule looks like for multiple teams (St. Joes, VCU).

Sure. 99% of the fan base is local. We've sold out plenty of 7pm weeknight games. Regarding football, I think going 0-7 is pretty much guaranteed at this point. The next game we have any glimmer of hope in is the WKU game.

Good morning. Here is an update. Remember, you can only move one spot per week.

Moved up: UNT and Charlotte
Moved down: MT, ODU, UTSA, WKU, UTEP

A Team's Fans go UP a level if they:

- beat their rival
- put together a 3 game win streak
- put together a 5 game win streak
- beat a ranked team
- beat a P5 team
- beat a G5 team by 21 or more
- win the division

A Team's Fans go DOWN a level if they:

- lose to their rival
- put together a 3 game losing streak
- put together a 5 game losing streak
- lose to any FCS opponent
- lose any game by 21 points or more
- fail to become bowl eligible

Level 1:
North Texas (beat a P5 team; 3 game win streak)

Level 2:
Marshall

Level 3:
Charlotte (beat their rival ODU)
FIU
La Tech
USM

Level 4:
FAU
Rice
UAB

Level 5:
MTSU (lost by 21 or more)
ODU (lost to their rival Charlotte; 3 game losing streak)
UTSA (lost by 21 or more; 3 game losing streak)

Level 6:
WKU (3 game losing streak)
UTEP (lost by 21 or more; 3 game losing streak)
