I just worry about the passing game. This weeks game will be telling. Should be an opportunity to air it out. Will have a much better idea after that.

Well... it could also be an opportunity to roll for about 300 rushing yards, and not even attempt a pass.

Yes. Of course that’s good, but at some point they are going to be down late, and if they haven’t demonstrated a passing game, we’ll have only hope that they will be able to respond to get the ball quickly down the field. At this point I don’t see it. They need to focus on passing this Saturday.

In 2009, Tony Pike blitzkrieged at Rutgers game one and set the tone for the season. They were able to do the same late season vs Illinois and do likewise at Hawaii and their last game vs Pittsburgh to pull out that last game and a 12-0 season. Who could be confident of that at this point.

I was thinking that, but it still supports my point.

Not to suggest the UC offense is built for rushing only, but it was interesting to watch Georgia Tech try to pass their way to victory once they got behind against USF. Tech was totally ineffective in that situation.
It would be prudent for UC to open the passing game up a little this week and more against Ohio. Here's hoping we're not in a steady downpour once again this Saturday night which could limit the playbook.

RE: Look who is receiving votes..... THE BEARCATS
I am excited about this weekend because I think we are going to start seeing some new guys getting touches and creating this weekend. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.
I suspect we'll see more slant routes and bubble screens out of the RPO this weekend (frankly this is what we'll be doing all year) than last due to the weather. They need to get Lewis, Geddis and Maderis going. We'll see more passes to the tight ends and running backs -- coach made the point in his media conference yesterday about Leonard Taylor needing to get on the field and I know they want to get Charles McClelland out in space so he can make something happen. I suspect Jayshon Jackson and Alec Pierce will get some touches as well.
On top of this Mike Warren will keep on truckin', as will the youngsters Tavion Thomas and Charles McClelland.

We nearly lost to Hawaii. Grutza came in late and threw a TD pass to Mardy to win it. That game also made it so we played 13 in the regular season after clinching the Big East. What a weird year.

It was worse than that. We only scored 2 offensive touchdowns in that game.
We were down by 14, and punted the ball with 11:23 left. Huber punted it to the 13 yard line.
After a pick-6 and a field goal, we were down by 4, and punted the ball with 4:23 left. Huber punted it to the 1 yard line, and we got a safety on the next play.
I maintain that Connor Barwin willed us to victory in the 4th quarter. The team was exhausted, and I remember him bullrushing the QB like 5 times in the last 3 drives and blowing up plays. The stat line says he only got 3 tackles & 1 sack, but I think he was responsible for way more than that in disruption.

I remember coming away from that game feeling dissapointed we didn't blow them out. It's funny how standards change.

I was at that game. It's bizzare that UC and UH have some history. It was a great comeback.

I don't think you can compare a team from that era that was built for passing with the one we currently have. Marty Gilyard, Armon Binns and Dominick Goodman were some of the best receivers in UC history to go along with a solid passing QB and an offensive genius in Brian Kelly. I agree the passing game needs work but we won't be effective to make "square peg" guys into "round holes." We're going to win this year mainly with possession control offense that features running the rock.
