The easiest way to win a game is from the stands you can catch every pass complete every throw and call all td plays and you win every game!!!

I find it ironic that people try to shut down conversation by saying that unless you've played college football, you can't understand or critique college football. It's football, not quantum mechanics.

I guess since I didn't play in college, I'm too ignorant to understand that 52-10 was an ass-whooping.

I guess since I didn't play in college, I'm too ignorant to understand that a fake punt from your own end on your first possession is ridiculous. (Even though the coach admits it was a mistake.)

I guess since I didn't play in college, I'm too ignorant to see that our QB was wildly inaccurate on his passing all day. And not even consistent in his inaccuracy, throwing both high and low...and behind...his receivers.

I guess since I didn't play in college, I'm too ignorant to see that Brickhouse got humiliated by Gandy-Whatever all day long. Oh, and I'm way too stupid to see that the coaches never tried to help him out.

I guess since I didn't play in college, I'm too ignorant to see that our running game was one-dimensional and completely ineffective. Being ignorant, I couldn't even begin to understand that you actually CAN make changes to your offense. It's legal.

I guess since I didn't play in college, I'm too ignorant to see that Blake LaRussa was much more effective on Saturday and that he might actually have been able to win the game, if he had played the 2nd half.

Finally, since I didn't play in college, I'm too ignorant to see that these types of beat-downs happen way too often at ODU. I'm supposed to believe that all Bobby has to do is make some tweaks around the edges to make this a championship team. You know, like giving a Yugo a new wax job will make it a winner in the Indy 500.

Well I'm not too ignorant to know that everyone is held accountable for their performance. ODU and Coach Wilder are paying the price this week. The criticism is unpleasant, but they earned it.

FWIW MM, I say criticize away, that was never my point. All your points above are fine by me and everyone I know, not that that matters. However, I believe personal insults are a Bridge to Far especially for the players. *Just my opinion but I feel strongly about it* Also before you go to far on the "but they earned it" stuff, you need to find out what was being said and sent to them (Coach Wilder for example) on twitter and elsewhere. If you would support people saying vile sexual things about you, your wife, or children (have no idea if you have any of those or not - just making a point) then I can see where you would think I was wasting your time by starting this thread.

I was actually responding to another poster who contends that if you didn’t play college FB, you have no right to criticize.

I have no problem with your post. I agree that personal attacks are unacceptable. However, I disagree with Wilder’s contention that these guys are “just kids” and off limits to criticism. They are men...young men, but men. They can’t ask for support and adulation without accepting criticism too. They represent our university, and on Saturday, none of them...coaches nor players...represented us very well. That’s why I said they “earned” the criticism they’re receiving this week.

Ahh got it, thank you. As I keep saying criticize away and I agree with you that personal invectives are over the line.

As a parent who has 2 boys playing football, I don't have any problem with people criticizing my kids' play. Hell, I do it myself. However, if you start calling my kids names, you've crossed the line. As I sit in the stands listening to other fans moan and groan about coaching and playing, I often realize they don't know what they're talking about when it comes to the nuances of football. Guess what? My kids also realize you don't know what you're talking about either. I have taught them to not let what "random fans" say bother them. I am sure college players get similar speeches from coaches/parents.

RE: Civil Discourse & Kids
I used to get on Darius James (among others) and players really hard until I met him one day and realized what a good kid he was and that I was probably over the line.

Since then, I’ve significantly toned down my language geared towards our players.

With that said, criticizing an odu athletes PLAY is totally in bounds and fine. Don’t question things like heart, intelligence, loyalty etc.

But questioning ability and if it’s up to par and the direction the program is headed?

100% in bounds and necessary for a thriving program.

When you stop caring about performance and ability you become JMU basketball, a once arch rival that is now as dead as a program can be.

Questioning the coach and the AD is totally in bounds as well because that’s what they are getting paid for. Period.

I find this board much more entertaining when ODU fans truly speak their mind.

Not threats...It's what people are actually doing. There were some very upset people, outside of this board, after the Liberty game.

I don't like the burning of tickets. If this continues everyone needs to show up and boo as loud as possible.

Yes, it's that season that helped set a record for donations.

I avoided this board after Saturday's loss knowing the comments would just bring me down. Coach needs to strongly advise the team from ever coming here....

If reading the comments on this board makes them feel worse than their performance last Saturday, they are in the wrong line of work.

Doesn't this sound familiar? Hopefully the radio station didn't hurt anyone's feelings at Michigan.

Any athlete worth his salt will be more critical of his own performance than fans could ever be. And there was plenty to be critical of Saturday,

listening to bobbys little blurb about blocking the negativity and the bigger picture being helping these men grow up so they can be successful in life.....A little scary to think about how prepared these men are going to be for the real world if their leader and mentor is telling them to silence their critics via a click of a mouse rather than silence your critics through improving your performance. I would have loved to hear the man tell us that he and the other MEN on this team planned to silence us by performing like they should. But no. Just click the block button and see ya next Saturday.
