Presidents DO very much care about athletics. Athletics do most publicity and promotions for schools. Oddly enough, football matters when recruiting regular students.

I'm sorry, they may say it on the surface, but the actions of our President and the presidents of many other universities in our conference show that they couldn't care less about sports. Look at the craphole our conference leadership is and explain how the presidents continue to hold no one accountable in CUSA for the catastrophic failure it is. If we had any leadership that actually cared, they'd be making changes at the top of the conference, but all we hear is support for Judy and others that don't know how to negotiate a decent tv deal.

I've seen presidents that care about athletics. We don't have one.

CUSA had zero leverage in TV negotiations. If the last 2 years we had 2 teams finish in T25, made an Access bowl, and averaged 28k FB attendance... then we would have had a little leverage. But, none of that happened.

I think this is what the AAC/Big East did. Still, it's tough politics to kill a conference and start another. Easier to expand (if we can get the 4-team playoff for bigger conferences), mold our division how we want it, THEN break off.

I expect the Big12 to make a move eventually. It might be several years down the road, but Texas and Oklahoma are itching. They'll either jump elsewhere, or they'll add new markets. The AAC still has Houston and Cincy naked and on all fours ever since the last Big12 flirt. It's safe to say the AAC will lose members first.

Do we want to play in Texas or Florida? FIU and FAU or UTSA and UTEP? We're playing the latter 2 yearly now, but we don't have to. If we add Ark State and ULaLa, we'd move East. If we added App State and Georgia Southern, we'd stay West. If we added all 4 we could split into 3 divisions of 6.

Marshall, App State, WKU, MTU, Charlotte, ODU
La Tech, USM, UAB, GSU, FIU, FAU
ULaLa, Rice, Ark State, UNT, UTEP, UTSA

THAT would generate excitement.

My thing is, do we really want to split tv revenue even more with a gigantic conference.

Edit: Also, who in our fan base would be excited to be in a division with Georgia State or the FXUs? You could argue no one wants to be in a football division with UAB either, but at least we’re used to them.

We're making nothing off TV now. Splitting nothing further doesn't hurt that much. Expanding forces renegotiation. Absorbing the bottom of FBS corners the market somewhat. Cutting back to 6 conference games expands the opportunity for OOC home games against more attractive opponents.

What else are we going to do? Just sit here?

For whom? My-oh-my how our ambition has changed over the last 10 years. 07-coffee3 I love Southern Miss for Southern Miss. But I'll get excited when we walk through this conference undefeated for several years straight, win a few we are not expected to win, and go to a top bowl. Or, move up to a conference that actually matters in the college football world. Three, maybe four, of the teams listed actually get my interest, but not necessarily additional bloodflow. The rest, I just want to pound just because we have to play them.

Yeah, but nobody wants us. The AAC teams don't want anything to do with us.

Nothing’s happening any time soon simply because it’s practically a given that one more round of realignment is coming at the top, with effects rolling downhill. CUSA, Sun Belt, and AAC as they exist now are just placeholders. For the little bit of financial impact that would occur, it’s just not worth the hassle of making changes right now. Also, who wants to be married to ULM when Memphis or Tulane might be back on the table in a few years or Kansas or Iowa State may end up on the market? No doubt, many Belt, CUSA, and AAC schools are discussing various “if/then” contingencies among themselves as we chat about this on a message board.

One thing I do like about or current lot is that we have active relationships both to the east and the west. We could easily go either way once things become geographically sane again.

I think we have to make the decision whether to go east or west.

We wouldn't be married to anybody, except maybe those in our division. I don't want Tulane back. They will never be serious about athletics and they will never bring fans to H'burg. Memphis is meh. We owned them in football and they owned us in basketball. They won't schedule us for anything. They won't come back to C-USA unless forced to. C-USA would have to be better than the AAC. UConn and Cincy would probably have to have left them behind.

Hi friends. App State lurker here. This is an interesting subject and fun to discuss. Something that we do on the App board quite often as well, haha.

The common theme I tend to see from us is that we want to be in a conference with regional, “like-minded” programs. I think a big part of that is knowing who you are, and working from there.

For App, we has clearly outgrown our friends in the SOCON, but hey let’s face it, we aren’t going to the SEC either. We also have a rabid fan base and long history of success. So for me, sharing a conference with the likes of Southern Miss, Marshall, Georgia Southern, MTSU, Ark State, Troy, La Tech, ULa and a couple others would be amazing. Not to knock the new programs, it’s not like they can manufacture history and tradition.

Anyways, just my two cents. Looking forward to hosting y’all in Boone this weekend!
