I hate to say it, but it appears our new stadium will likely still be the worst in CUSA east the day it opens. Maybe on par with FIU.

I disagree. I think in the East only Marshall, FAU and MTSU will have a better stadium. And I only include MTSU because its bigger not because it will be nicer.
That being said, Phase 2 or future phases need to happen sooner than later. The north endzone must be priority in the next 2-4 years.

I hope you're right, but am curious as to why you think so. FIU is pretty ugly, but at least has wrap around end zones. WKU has nice upper and lower decks with a nice looking press box with suites and better scoreboard. Charlotte's is small but very nice with awesome expansion potential. Once they expand their place will be great. ODU's looks to be similar to WKU only without the nice press box and suites or architectural details, but with a ratty end zone.
I think ODU's stadium has potential if we add a nice concourse at the top of the second level with a club level and make an attractive press box/luxury suite addition to go over that. What I see in the renderings looks like a mobile home stuck on top of the bleachers. Surely thats just a temporary cheap stop gap... I hope. Then we MUST tear down the student end zone and replace with more comfortable wrap around seating filling in the corners. From what I hear, the players also need much larger and comfortable locker room facilities. Lastly a nice scoreboard to go over that new student end zone (and putting the existing board on top of the game day building) would be the cherry on top. Do all that, and we'll have an upper half G5 level stadium we can be proud of and use as a recruiting tool.

Given the apparent disconnect between announced attendance and scanned tickets (and where actual attendance fits between the two), I think now more than ever size isn't much of an indicator of FBS quality. Of course, what it looks like now and how it looks when it's actually executed can and likely will change, but I'm less pessimistic about Phase 1 as I was before when we were all in love with a 30,000-seat stadium as a floor and not a stretch goal.
That said, you're absolutely right that at least parts of Phase 2 need to come online sooner than others.

2-4 - Complete North endzone
10 years or less - Add upper deck to East side and add more suites to west side

Phase 2 will not happen until Broderick and Selig have moved on.

Im not sure Broderick's and Selig's take on football. Its like they want the results but dont want to do what it takes to get there. Cant have it both ways. Either man up and start finding some real money to pump into football or go 5-7 or worse every year.
To get football going in the right direction its probably going to take $100 million dollars. That would pay for a finished stadium, indoor practice facility and a coaching staff that can recruit and coach on the field.

I hear what you're saying, and it's not that I don't agree with the concept. I agree that facilities HELPS recruiting, however it doesn't GUARANTEE recruits. My beef with FBS football as a whole is that it's a P5 sport, period. What's the best scenario for a AAC/CUSA team? Lightning in a bottle for one year, and UCF makes it to the Peach Bowl. Great year, dreams were fulfilled. However, those schools (and our's) will not be a part of the playoff. ODU will never become a P5 school, and some will take that as an insult. Should ODU continue to strive for better (as Razor always says)? Absolutely. Should ODU expect the best from their coaches/players/donors? Absolutely. At best, we become a consistently 1-3 rank FBS team in CUSA. You don't need 30K capacity stadium from that; similar in MBB where not every arena needs to be the Carrier Dome. The money isn't going to happen for another 10+ years, at a minimum. Neither the president or Wood will "man up" for that.

Correct, that is attainable. A hot, up&coming, coach can bring the buzz and all the good that comes with it. Shaka didn't come into VCU with the best facilities. However, what he created, while there, brought it all to fruition. Having a $300 million facility would be fantastic. However, I'm not a subscriber to that having that is the ONLY way to start the improvement of a FB program.

I didnt say $300 million I said an additional $100 million to really get things going. No there is no magic attendance number that once you hit that you automatically become a winning successful program. But there are stadiums that kids love to see and want to be a part of. The better stadium you have the better the chances of winning over recruits from going to other schools. Its not always about the biggest but its about a stadium that provides the best atmosphere. Students provide that atmosphere, with our north endzone student attendance will continue to be crap.

I do think what Nuke said has some merit. You get the right coaches in, you get excitement back up, you get ticket demand back up, and the puts a sense of urgency on adding more seats. The whole thing can snowball if you get the right coach. Obviously, that is much easier said than done, though.

Lane proved that at FAU. Students are excited, the team is winning, they've gotten tons of press and applications to the school have gone up too. Thats worth $1 million per year. I look at it in part as a marketing expenditure and its money well spent. And I think we could use $100 million, but $50 million would probably come close to doing it at this level. Another $25-30 million into the stadium, $20 million into a IPF and lockeroom updates and $5million to bolster salaries for a decade. At that point success should be so high donations and tickets sales (and suites) will cover the salary requirements.
