Wilder and the Stadium
Do we have to play nice and keep him this year and next so he can open the new stadium next year?

If we lose 8 games what's the chance he gets fired?

We will probably lose 9 or 10 and keep him. Though if that happens I’ll be ready for a change. Give him a nice plaque in the new place commemorating how he started the program. I like him, but it’s becoming clear a change may need to be made.

ODU has been as good to him as he has been to us. We owe him nothing.

RE: Wilder and the Stadium
I come in peace with a real question.

What is BW's salary? Salary for assistants?

If the salary won't get the attention of a coach that the program/fans need, sending BW packing could do more harm than good.

JMU's "cautious approach" which I have not always cared for does not allow for a G5 football program on a "shoestring budget."

I don't know is Wilder sucks or not, but not having the budget for an coach/assistants upgrade is a tough spot to manage for the AD.

If I remember correctly we are below the conference average for salaries for both football and basketball. We are getting what we are paying for. I have no idea if we can afford higher salaries or not, unfortunately. The tv money that was expected with the conference move is gone.

Per USA Today, Wilder gets $650K and has a $1.5MM buyout. Asst pool is about $1.1MM With Scott high and Perryman low (Forest was let go and Allen had yet to join).

If you want to go that route, prepare to open your wallets. Here are the lists, figure out what level of success you want to spend at and write a check:

According to Ed Miller, that's wrong. JJs in the top 3 highest paid coaches in the league.

So top AAC and MWC schools get triple the salary.

You know if we play Liberty again for another payday, we'll have enough money for a buyout.

Not a bad idea. Can we play them instead of NMSU? so that we can let these crappy coaches go.

How about.... Wilder and his Maine buddies leave ODU for the William and Mary job openings after the season on their own free will without buyouts! They are great FCS coaches and know the area well. Wilder already has a home near Williamsburg. 05-stirthepot We just have to convince the salesman aka BW to bite on the deal to leave on his own. 07-coffee3

We have the largest budget in the conference but our coaches salary is near the bottom. Assuming it is the same in basketball you have to ask about where all of the money is spent.

Wait. What? We have the largest budget, but our coaches aren't getting paid? Selig, what are you doing? Cut the head off the snake now.

I guess I didn't consider his raise. That is surprising and makes me feel even worse today. Thanks for the correction though

I see in a post above that Wilder is $650K. Damn. I wish I could make that kind of money. Houston is $515K with some bonuses.

Houston is to __________________ , we hear all the time. Good problem to have I guess. We could really screw up how we respond to it eventually happening.

Problem keeps coming back to money. Seems like we need to start scheduling those 1.5-2 million dollar body bag games and start over. Hell, do the same for basketball.
