RE: Wilder and the Stadium
By the numbers, Wilder and staff aren't getting the job done.

Wilder is 23 wins and 28 losses vs. FBS teams.

We have lost 18 games by 21 or more points.
We have lost 10 games by 28 or more points.
We have lost 6 games by 35 or more points.
We have lost 4 games by 42 or more points.

Games we have been beaten by 42 or more points have been to Liberty, App State, Marshall, and UNC

We have been shutout 2 times by App St and VT.

11 of our wins have been by 7 or fewer points.

We have only beat an opponent by 21 points 3 times. UNCC, Idaho, and Marshall. Our best victory by margin has been a 35 point win vs. UNCC.

We have 1 shutout vs. UNCC in a 6-0 victory.

When we win we win by an average of 10.9 points.
When we lose we lose by an average of 24.9 points.

One bowl game victory, 1 winning season.

We're at the bottom. We can only go up from here, RIGHT? AimHigh 07-coffee3

We can only go up for this season. I'm more concerned for next year. If we can keep all the good recruits that have verballed we may have to play a whole bunch of them to be competitive. Bobbys future may depend on a turnaround this week. If he can right the ship and get a W things may settle down and wind up OK. If we don't, and wind up with a 2 win season, followed by what may be the same next year Im not sure he can withstand that. Its a shame all of this is happening with the new stadium opening. If we could open that place coming off a bowl season and things looking even stronger for the 2019 season I think the new place would be rocking that first year.

As a counter point, we have been one of the best startups in the history, first in FCS and then more importantly in FBS.

I would agree that we are getting close to the point where the startup does not matter any more, but if you compare our first 4 years to others that started up (with more of a headstart), we compare really well.

FWIW, I'm not sure if this is out or not, but it sounds like they are going to have a "turning out the lights" ceremony after the last home game. It sounds like a pretty cool idea to "close the stadium."

The vibe I am getting is he may not survive a 2 win season this year.

If we look like we did last week, I don't know if we'd beat Charlotte or Rice.

So does Bobby get a free pass this year no matter what the record is? What if we win 1 game? Does his most optimistic supporters still want to let him have a year with a new stadium?

He probably will. Even if he should be sent packing. I should add a caveat that all the teams I root for blow (ODU MBB being the exception, but they don't even inspire that much confidence lately). So I've lost all optimism and hope.

Blaine Taylor didnt get that and he arguably had much more success that BW ever has.

Well, BT checked out and let the demons of his past catch up to him.

BW just isn't a good enough coach.

Agreed. Until BW hosts recruits and gets on the air for a coaches show shnockered its not apples to apples.

Blaine Taylor publicly embarrassed the school. Say what you will about Wilder's performance in important games, but he's not shown up to a coaches' show drunk. So it's a different situation. Had Blaine just had an awful season without the bottle playing a factor, I think his seat would have been very hot but he wouldn't have been terminated in the fashion that he was.

ODU is falling behind schools that have moved up within the last 4 or 5 years.
In the last 4 season:
App St. No changes to head coach. They have been performing welling vs. p5 programs.
Georgia Southern. Has had 3 head coaches within the last 4 seasons. They have hung with p5 programs Georgia, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Ol Miss.
UTSA Has had 2 head coaches within the last 4 year. Have a P5 win and beat Houston.
Texas State Just awful. The coach should have just stayed at JMU.
South Alabama Has had 2 head coaches within the last 4 year. Beat a SEC team Miss St and hung with App St.
WKY They got better once Wood left the school.
Georgia State Has had 2 head coaches within the last 4 years. Beat WKU in a bowl game. Hung with 9th rank Wisconsin.
Charlotte Just awful no changes.
UMASS Beat App St., BYU and hung with Tenn, South Carolina, and Miss St. from the SEC
Coastal Carolina Has beaten Liberty and hung with App St.

I'm not tracking. How are they in similar situations? I'm asking if BW should be given the opportunity to have a brand new stadium to work with since the current one falls below any FBS standards.

We did that with a perfect storm of strategic scheduling, Hofstra leaving football, and one incredible QB find in Taylor Heinicke; and the recruiting ability of coach Zohn Burden.

We no longer have the luxury of any of the above, and our last winning season occurred with the last of those FCS recruits, even though we were playing FBS

We have, IMO, not shown the ability to recruit, develop, or scheme at this level.

EDIT: Recruiting should improve with the new stadium.

ODU beat Liberty once too. Do they get credit for that? ODU also is 9-0 against UTSA, Coastal, GSU and UMass. Does that count? P5 wins (or simply "being competitive") is one metric in a bundle of them.

Obviously, App State is the best of the recent crop of move ups, owing greatly to their culture of success. Western isn't recent compared to the rest of the schools on that list. But in terms of consistency and fan support, I'd take ODU over everyone else on that list.

They aren't similar situations. However, IMO, BW's coaching ability is on par with our facilities.

As a counter point, we have been one of the best startups in the history, first in FCS and then more importantly in FBS.

I would agree that we are getting close to the point where the startup does not matter any more, but if you compare our first 4 years to others that started up (with more of a headstart), we compare really well.

App state 37-14
ODU 26-23
Georgia Southern 25-24
UTSA 22-26
Texas State 20-28
South Alabama 19-31
WKY 16-33
Georgia State 10-39
Charlotte 8-29 (3+)
UMASS 8-40
Coastal Carolina 3-10 (1+)

We did that with a perfect storm of strategic scheduling, Hofstra leaving football, and one incredible QB find in Taylor Heinicke; and the recruiting ability of coach Zohn Burden.

We no longer have the luxury of any of the above, and our last winning season occurred with the last of those FCS recruits, even though we were playing FBS

We have, IMO, not shown the ability to recruit, develop, or scheme at this level.

EDIT: Recruiting should improve with the new stadium.

Recruiting may improve. Developing talent is still a question mark and may depend on the position coach, we definitely do not seem able to scheme at this level, and this one concerns me the most. I just don't understand how Scott has not shown any new looks over the years.
