What is BW's salary? Salary for assistants?

If the salary won't get the attention of a coach that the program/fans need, sending BW packing could do more harm than good.

JMU's "cautious approach" which I have not always cared for does not allow for a G5 football program on a "shoestring budget."

I don't know is Wilder sucks or not, but not having the budget for an coach/assistants upgrade is a tough spot to manage for the AD.

Watch it!!! We may be after your coaches!!! COGS At least yall show up to a game and compete with FBS programs.

I see in a post above that Wilder is $650K. Damn. I wish I could make that kind of money. Houston is $515K with some bonuses.

Houston is to __________________ , we hear all the time. Good problem to have I guess. We could really screw up how we respond to it eventually happening.

That's a great problem to have, indeed.

ODU will be stuck in mediocrity until we get a finished stadium with a legit student section. I read that C-USA student sections are confined to the endzones. I think that is bs. Also students are not happy that the student section are the worst seats in the stadium and that they are spending $65 Million and nothing is changing for the students.

Ew, I didn't realize that was a conf mandate for football too. I just assumed it was because they want the $ in the best seats. But I firmly believe that if we want to establish a culture of involvement you give the students those first 4 rows around the entire stadium, donors be damned. Because in 20 years all those students and those memories formed will gladly sit higher up to fondly watch the new kids take over the reigns and remember how much fun it was. It isn't about right now it's about growing the base.

RE: Wilder and the Stadium
We always talk about how we can't afford to pay for better coaches. Aside from the fact that a better coach with significantly better results would likely pay for themselves, the numbers we are talking about are pretty minute in relation to the overall athletic budget. For example:

JJ is making $500k
A good mid major coach could be had for $1M
We need to come up with an extra $500k
Our budget is like $42M
We need to find 1.2% from the current budget to hire a top level mid major coach.

Am I to believe that it would be impossible to cut 1.2% from the budget? Bottom line is that they need to run this thing like a business instead of a non profit.

ECU is paying Scottie Montgomery $1.2 million per year and he has gone 6-19 with two FCS losses.

Still need to find the right coach if we move on from BW.

RE: Wilder and the Stadium
Regarding students, Im not sure if we should expect any better student participation with the new stadium because they'll still be in the same old ugly bleachers. They literally get no benefit from it other than better rest rooms. A nice concourse area, suites/club level, and finished end zone are crucial to making the stadium nice. It has potential, but there will still be a lot of work to be done to get it to good once it opens. I keep hearing how nice that LU stadium was. I hope one day in the not far future our stadium gets close to that good.

I am all for considering and supporting putting the student section behind the visitors bench. After seeing the incredible engagement by the students of LU, if it is the seating making the difference then move them next year money be damned. The football team depends on intense and enthusiastic participation by students. They are their peers and their support means a lot.

That goes without saying, and I am not even 100% on the fire BW train yet. I came into this season slightly on the side that's supportive of BW, but see this year as a bit of a make or break. Poor season this year, and I am ready to fire everyone. JJ, Wood, and BW. Hell throw Broderick in there with them. Make Bruce Stewart the AD and lets move forward.

They are not allowed to.

Actually this is what the bylaws say, taken from CUSA Football Regulations Section II, FF;
Quote:Student Seating. Host institutions shall refrain from seating students in the first five (5) rows behind the visiting team area
between the 35-yard lines.

They could move them behind the home bench if they wanted.

So put the band in the first five rows and students behind them.

Or put the visitor benches on the endzone.

yeah..I get that. I was voicing my support for the students if it helps have a better student engagement. Honestly put them on the 6th row up. Do it today if they really cared about students, They ONLY care about money.

Serious question. Does ODU have a Director of Student Engagement? That would be more encompassing of overall engagement not just sports, but still. If not, they should. If they do, that person needs to do a bit better. It would be worth it in the long run to hire someone full time to do internal branding and student engagement efforts. I’ve seen it pay dividends first hand.

My hope is the school would and challenge the students regarding their pride and support for their athletic teams and peers.

Im torn on Broderick, he has done well to get ODU lots of money for new buildings on campus. Other than the his vision is not clear at all. And he doesnt seem to care much about sports.
