New Season, Same Offense
NIU offenses have been inefficient and ineffective under Rod Carey. New season, same offensive results. To make matters worse he doesn't know how to develop QBs and doesn't recognize when one QB is better than the other (Maddie > Graham and Santa > Childers). He continually stuck with Ryan Graham even though he had shown no progress and is now doing the same with Marcus Childers.
When the media and Carey didn't really talk about Childers and his progress this offseason you got the sense that he still wasn't showing enough improvement.
Here we are with a QB with 79 yards passing, 1 INT, and -33 yards rushing. He's not a good enough runner to make up for his lack of passing skills.
Now the best QB has transferred (Santa) and we are stuck with the same unimproved offense.
Ah well, if we're lucky this is Carey's last season anyway.

It depends on the future of Frazier. As long as Frazier is at NIU, coaching moves are not going to be made, we know that much.

What happened to that awful poster who always posted the “Don’t overreact!” threads every time Carey lost a big game? Seems like it’s a good time for him to make an appearance excusing Carey’s mistakes. [/u]

I think we've seen enough of Carey-led teams to know he is not the coach for this job. He's better suited somewhere where mediocrity is accepted.

Teams like Navy and Air Force have been one dimensional and very successful for years. Maybe we should make a change to fit the talent we have.

Also remember, the University doesn't have an offical president, just an interim one. Who knows what the BoD is telling athletics, it doesn't fall solely on Frazier, but the buck sure stops with him.

Don't blame Frazier, blame the lack of education funding. Trust me Sean cannot stand this bulls**t coaching (excuse me it is not coaching).

RE: New Season, Same Offense
As I said in the game thread I thought there were some Childers positives in the first half, notwithstanding the really bad decision resulting in the pick in the red zone. However, he was horrible in the second half. Initially I thought he would be a strong runner but he is not anywhere near the runner he was billed to be.
The problem is if Carey would even consider making a change (highly unlikely) who would be our QB?
Graham: great attitude, but I do not know if he is even healthy and as I have said before he simply does not have the talent to be a D1 QB. We know what we have with Graham and IMO he is not it.
Hall: I think it was Randy who said he cannot throw. 2019 recruiting looks very good but why can't we recruit a good QB? We recruited and gave a scholarship to a dual-threat QB that is completely one dimensional! The coaches would have to know he could not throw when he was in high school. Perhaps the coaches thought he would develop his passing, but his being moved to WR tells me that project did not go well. Maybe we go to a triple option type of offense like say Navy.
Jiya Wright: While his stats in HS seems to indicate that he really can run and pass he is a true freshman; enough said.
Anthony Thompson: We really do not know much about him in terms of how he would perform in games. He is from run heavy Mount Carmel so I am sure his strength is running. He would seem to be our best option. Is he better than Childers? I don’t know, but our coaches’ decisions in the past on personnel does not give me a lot of confidence that Childers is better than Thompson.
Carey said that this is the deepest group of QBs he has had at NIU. Maybe in numbers but not the quality. It won’t make much difference unless there is a good O game plan and the play calling gets a whole lot better in a hurry! Unless something drastic happens, we are stuck with Childers, so we better hope he shows significant improvement to overcome the play calling.

Carey doesn't make QB changes until an injury happens. Otherwise, no matter how bad Graham or Childers have played, he has always stuck with them.

RE: New Season, Same Offense
After that level of inefficiency not seeing a backup QB makes me think we have nothing else at QB. Except that with Carey the 2nd and 3rd string QB might both be better than first string

This is the big problem. Frazier knows he is not accountable to anyone

You don't have a clue. Frazier has a zero budget, He is doing amazing things with nothing. Send him a million and he will fire Carey in an instant.

Florida State and Utah will eat us up and spit us out.
Even though this is an extremely tough non-conference schedule I'm happy for it because it will put the final nail in Carey's coffin.
