Rutgers favored by 16.5.

First ever meeting between the two schools.
2nd meeting with the Big 10 since we've been in the Sun Belt. We lost 42-35 to Illinois in 2014.

Withers is 2-0 in season openers at Texas State beating Ohio in 2016 and Houston Baptist in 2017.

Both teams will have QBs making their first collegiate starts in sophomore Willie Jones III for Texas State and true freshman Art Sitkowski for Rutgers.

Rutgers is terrible. This is a sneaky chance at a victory. Or, just proof how bad Texas State might just be...one of the two.

For a Big 10 team maybe. They won 3 Big Ten games last season and have improved in the last 2 seasons. Ive seen a few projections that have them at 6-7 wins and bowling this year.

What the hell...why not. The Ohio win in Everett's first game was the same quality and hopefully the Texas St side is a little better than they were then.

How do you Texas State fans feel about the QB situation?

I myself am nervous. The guy is an amazing athlete and looked good in spot play and in 3 qtrs vs ULL last year. If he can play like he did vs ULL then we should be in good shape. The good news is he should be better than he was vs them. We shall see.


If you're bored and curious though watch the last three quarters of our game vs ULL last year and tell me what you think of him.

I like jones. He showed flashes of talent last year.

Personally i thought withers rode williams too long last season and should have given jones more PT to get him ready for this year

Short term? I'm nervous too. First career start. Who knows exactly what we'll get.

Long term? I feel really optimistic. He's really athletic with a great arm. Hoping we can keep Brett Elliott around to develop him.
