I've always thought of Couric as a lightweight. But a lightweight with a pronounced political spin. You look at the questions that tripped Palin, they were clearly designed for that purpose.

Who really gives a rat's ass what newspapers she reads? That's really just a way of saying, "You're not one of us." But she should have had a Sarah Barracuda comeback. Something like, "Probably not the ones you read, because I don't live in your elitist echo chamber. I listen to, and speak to, real Americans who live in the states that you fly over. I am running to be the vice-president for those people who feel that their country and government ave left them." I don't think the McCain people would ever have prepped her that way, because they came from the same navel-gazing Beltway/east coast mindset as Couric. They probably all read the NYT cover to cover, and were probably appalled that Palin didn't.

Then she should go out and get a photo op hunting with a bunch of good old boy coal miners in western Pennsylvania or West Virginia. She could have appealed to exactly the same voters that put Trump over the top in Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Boy, you set a low bar for Republicans.
What newspapers do you read from Katie Couric is now considered a loaded question intended to stump the person interviewing to be VP?
Barracuda??? Palin was an unprepared baitfish.

The perfect comeback was, "Newspapers? Hey the 80s are calling. They want their media back!"

It didn't matter who he picked anyways. The global financial meltdown was going full throttle and that was going to be the deciding factor.

Respect to McCain but this kind of thing seems incredibly petty with regard to who NOT to invite to a funeral.

I'm not sure Palin and he were on friendly terms. It was a business, political partnership for that campaign.

I can see not having the sitting president at the funeral just because of all the logistics that come along with all the added security and he and Trump were not friends.

This is about McCain and his family and they can invite or not invite whoever they want.

The left just doesn't get it. It's just one more manifestation of the kind of smug, arrogant condescension that made Donald Trump president.

What newspapers is not a bad question because it's loaded, it's a bad question because it's irrelevant. It's designed to provoke the reaction among the elites, "OMG, Palin doesn't read the NYT. We can't have such folks in positions of power." It's not asked because it's relevant, it's asked because it's designed to get a sound byte.

So Sarah should have given them a sound byte. WTF difference does it make whether I read your inward-centered club newspaper? I'm running to be the VP for those people in middle America who don't give a damn what the NYT says. But the McCain people didn't point her that way because they didn't understand that dynamic either.

What is the most un-friendly act or statement you ever heard McCain say/do about Palin, or her about him?

Has anyone disputed that?

It's their event. They have every right to invite or not invite whomever they want. It's sad that their choices reflect what appears to be anger that McCain took to his grave.

I certainly hope not to take that kind, or any other kind, of anger to my grave. More to the point, I hope and plan and expect not to be taking anything to the grave any time soon.

This is based on news coverage discussing this matter after he passed away. I certainly never met the man so I couldn't say for sure first hand but then again we are trusting the MSM to give us good information. That information could be totally wrong but if they were friendly then why not have her at his funeral? No big deal. It's politics and not every one genuinely likes everyone.

They also said he held grudges. If that was the case I don't think GW Bush would be invited after what his campaign did to him during the 2000 campaign.

RE: Sarah Palin Excluded from John McCain’s Funeral
The former Alaska governor, campaign manager Steve Schmidt, adviser Nicolle Wallace and strategist John Weaver were all left off the guest lists for McCain's memorial services, Politico reported, citing three unnamed sources.

Politico reported that McCain became angry with Schmidt for his criticism of the decision to select Palin, even though Schmidt had been one of the advisers advocating her for the VP slot.

Schmidt and Wallace cooperated with the authors of the 2009 book "Game Change" (which was made into and HBO movie), which painted Palin in a very unflattering light.

Weaver, the man behind McCain's "Straight Talk Express," left the campaign in 2007 when McCain's primary run appeared doomed.
