Apartments planned for 100 north main

Not gonna demolish it. But instead turn into apartments. I wonder if they’ll modernize the outside with a new design

RE: Apartments planned for 100 north main
Coming back from Heber four weeks ago I was telling my family stories about that restaurant at the top. Seems like I remember my Dad taking me up there for lunch after church one day probably early 70's. My kids couldn't believe it moved, but was a great 360view of the city.
I literally said "Someone should renovate that building and turn it into apartments or condos". I am SO SO glad they are doing that...will be good for Memphis.
And to take it one step further, renovate the moving circular part upstairs and turn it into a first class restaurant or club of some type (like Peabody Rooftop)

RE: Apartments planned for 100 north main
My father was the third tenant in that building, an attorney who was tired of carrying law books blocks down the mall. I also officed there in his suite for some years. Many nice lunches were had at that revolving restaurant. For a few years, a couple of sweet little ladies ran it, and their rolls were to die for. It was also a fine dining dinner spot for a time.
I remember at first, too, when George Klein and his Cuties filmed their weekly rock 'n roll dance party on that top floor. There was a private club, complete with pool and gym.
I am very glad it is being repurposed into apartments. The marble and brass on the ground floor are beautiful.

"I think that was the original plan before they decided to add a tower. I wouldn't mind living in a well-done condo there, but not waste my money on an apt. and not really want to be near the chaos of a hotel. But then, there is always the shake, rattle and roll factor of the 100 N. Main not having reinforced steel in the case of the
Big One.
I have a fondness for the place, even though it has very bad vibes from having been built on a slave market, because my father was the second tenant in there in 1963 or whenever it opened, and I spent about ten years there in his office space. Funny thing, Harry Bloomfield originally planned a second tower on the parking lot to the south. I don't know why that never materialized because for many years the 100 N. Main bldg was full."

Like any structure that is repurposed it will have to be brought up to the current building code including the seismic provisions, ADA, etc.

awesome stuff Mark
I used to love going to that top of the 100 place. Actually, I still think the Summit Club at top of the Clark Tower was the best view of the entire city. You could see downtown, the airport, LBMS, Poplar and all the growth out east.
